WKYC-TEGNA News Director Out After One Month

Pick a number:

#1 Did the ratings tank that fast?

#2 Did someone they really wanted become available who would work for less.

#3 Did he have something on his work computer that should not be on a work computer?

#4 Did he totally p*ss off the talent. It was either them or him.

#5 Some kind of harassment deal?

I hope he had a lawyer read his contract before he moved.

Maybe his family didn't want to move to Cleveland, so he left to be with them.

As for Channel 3, this move does not help the station whatsoever, especially with morale.

Does he look like this?

The fastest hire/firing in TV history next to Inside Edition who fired the host after 1 week and hired Bill O'Reilly and yelling at the behind the scense person when he was anchor from 89-95.

The most likely explanation. Or he probably thought twice about basically taking a demotion as he was previously a GM in Orlando.

I certainly can't think of any other manager or executive in Cleveland TV or radio that left or was dismissed that quickly. Bill Gardner's blink-and-you-miss-it stint as WLTF PD/morning host lasted all but one day in 1986, when he quit after a disagreement with upper management.

From my experience in tv news, it’s either 3 or 4

It seems that every Cleveland TV station is in some kind of flux and the employees are all depressed.
It's a microcosm of the industry in general. Major monoliths owning all the stations and a lack of interest by those owners in doing anything that is not news, not to mention streaming disrupting everything.
That stinks, but maybe they’re depressed about living in Cleveland versus where they used to live.
At least we don't have awful traffic. But there's no one willing to run their stations with some sort of pizzazz and hasn't been since Milt Maltz sold off WOIO 28 years ago.

It's at least cheaper cost of living than the bigger cities. I just saw an opening at a NYC station. Pay is only $50,000. Noone can support themselves in NYC for that!
Oh, for God's sake. We have a beautiful lakefront, wonderful neighborhoods like Tremont and Gordon Square, a world class orchestra, major league sports teams, terrific bookstores, the Emerald Necklace, the second biggest theatre district in the country, some wonderful clubs and restaurants of all ethnic variety. I can't understand why anybody thinks that Cleveland is some kind of hell hole.

I wasn't implying that it's a hell hole. Sorry it came across that way.

I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about the dated stereotype that some people outside of our area have about Cleveland. I still read about "the mistake on the lake" and "Isn't that the city where the river caught on fire?". Yah. 55 years ago! But it is OK. Don't come here, then. Go spend $4000 a month for a one-room studio apartment in Manhattan, or have an hour commute from outside the area.
