May 2025 PPM Ratings

https://ratings.****************/content/arb011

WXYT on top, and by a large margin when streaming ratings are considered. WOMC jumps ahead of WNIC for the #2 spot, WNIC falls to #3. WYCD sees a full point gain for #4. Despite a drop, WMXD makes the Top 5.

Not many significant moves in the rest of the pack. WWJ remains in the Top 10 despite being in the AM band. WJR continues to flounder dropping to a 1.4 share. WRCJ sees another drop after posting impressive ratings for a small public radio station focused on classical music and jazz.

In terms of the 24/7 (aside from sports PBP) all newsers, you are correct.

If Audacy were desperate to give WWJ an FM home, Alt 98.7 would indeed be the brand sacrificed. It is easily the weakest billing FM station of Audacy's Detroit cluster.

Of note, Audacy does have room under current FCC rules to acquire one more Detroit FM, assuming Revenue concentration limits are not exceeded. If an Audacy - Cumulus marriage were to occur, things could get interesting.

Sooner or later WWJ needs to get on FM.
Do they? I'm not sure they would do much better than they are now on FM? Nor am I sure what Audacy would sacrifice. At one point, I might've thought 98.7 would work, but the Alternative format there is doing better than anyone expected.

Do you really see those two joining? If they did, I'd think 96.3 might be a better candidate for WWJ than 98.7.

I have nothing to back this up, but even if such a tie-up were to happen, I would bet WDVD outbills WDZH considering the target audience. Plus, WDVD is generally higher rated than WDZH.

If, or more likely when WWJ goes to FM, I’m 99.9% certain it will be 98.7.

Exactly. I imagine the ceiling for Hot AC is also higher than that for Alternative, especially one that is pretty gold-heavy. Hot AC also fits the cluster better, with sales synergy with WYCD and WOMC. I would be very surprised if Audacy bought WDVD only to flip it to a WWJ simulcast.

The rumor mill has been swirling about a possible Audacy - Cumulus partnership on a national level for awhile, but I've not seen anything substantive to support those rumors.

Given the current political climate in Washington (where the Soros family's minority ownership stake in Audacy is drawing heavy scrutiny from some corners), I think it'll be difficult for Audacy to be an acquirer. A change in administrations would likely need to occur first.

If Audacy were to purchase Cumulus (or at least WDVD) outright at some distant date in the future, I agree 96.3 WDVD might be the brand tossed aside to make room for WWJ on FM. Personally, I think it might be an unwise move to toss WDVD aside instead of WDZH. I say that because my gut feeling is WDVD would pair better with WOMC & WYCD for sales purposes. Moreover, killing the WDVD brand would be phenomenal news for iHeart's WNIC and WKQI and place Audacy stations such as WYCD at a disadvantage for vying for female-focused ad dollars.

You're right, I wasn't aware of that. Thank you for noting that for me, and I'll post the correct link going forward.

I have no intention of intentially doing anything contrary to the rules here, so I am sincere in thanking you for pointing this out.
