Family Life coming to Harrisburg?

Family Life (the network based out of Bath, NY) is hoping to gain a Harrisburg signal (fundraising page here). They’re touting this potential acquisition as an existing station that would be moving closer to Harrisburg. I know that WFVY (Froggy Valley 100.1 - Lebanon) recently had a CP expire that would have moved the transmitter to near Ft. Indiantown Gap and substantially increase their coverage toward Harrisburg. WQBG (Bigfoot Country 100.5 - Elizabethville) has recently filed an application to move transmitter to north of Mechanicsburg, with WQKX (94.1 Sunbury) applying to pick up the Elizabethville COL (no technical change). So, I’m wondering if Family Life could be looking to acquire this 100.5 Harrisburg move-in if approved.

Considering that 7 mountains and Family Life have made station deals before, that 7 mountains could be that friend offering to sell the station. 7 mountains barely serves Harrisburg now so selling off this proposed 100.5 move in if approved makes sense.

Not sure why WQKX would move COL to Elizabethville unless they were somehow involved in a WQBG sale (or swap). It would make no sense for 7 Mountains to bring WQBG into the Harrisburg market without a format change (it would only compete with nearby WFVY).

A modified 100.1 CP was granted last October and expires in 2027.

It moves a competitor out of the market and likely got a little compensation for doing so.

Yes, I had seen that modification to move a few miles west of the original CP, but I hadn’t realized that this reset the three year clock. Did that used to be a rule?

The timing of the 100.5 application and the original 100.1 CP expiration is interesting though. Could the 100.5 application go through as is with a 100.1 move to Grantville?

100.3 translator (HopeFM) on Reesers Summit will be crowded by CP move-ins by both 100.5 and 100.1
Hope Christian Church recently applied to relocate its 100.9 translator in Hershey to 104.5. I suspect 100.3 will then move to 100.9 once that is granted.

Family Life held their fundraising campaign for the new Harrisburg station this week and reached 150% of their goal. In the general manager's update, he mentioned that the station is currently a rimshot signal to Harrisburg but they have the opportunity to move it closer for a city-grade coverage over the entire Harrisburg area.

Their website says that a friend of the ministry who now owns the station approached them about the purchase of the station, knowing the signal move would greatly increase its value. Their Facebook says the purchase of the Harrisburg signal and all of the needed equipment is now fully funded, and it puts them well on the way to a second station in central PA.

Today’s Family Life report mentions that as early as today they’re looking to file the application to purchase the station. They’re also hoping for a CP on said station (100.5?).

As mentioned before, they are well on the way to having the funds to also get a signal on air that would fill in the gap between the Harrisburg station and the Lewisburg translator. The way the GM is phrasing it, it sounds like this would be a new signal. Wonder if we’ll also be seeing a new translator application filed soon.

A while ago Family Life’s announced they were working on second station acquisition to fill the gap between their Lewisburg translator on 104.7, and the eventual new NW Harrisburg station on 100.5. I had been suspecting 100.5’s Bigfoot simulcast on 98.3, but during today’s ministry update the GM mentioned this station being in Millersburg. That would be 98.9 WQLV. No application or signed agreement yet.

According to today’s Family Life report, both deals were signed on Friday. WQBG (100.5) becomes WCDM and is expected to go on air sometime in March after they can get the new antenna on the tower at the new location. WQLV (98.9) becomes WCDF and is anticipated to go on the air “shortly” (sounds like a few weeks) once the receiving equipment arrives and is installed.
