Spatz & Amanda Exit WONE AKRON

Ratings solid. Revenue issue? Rubber City has always championed Local/Live talent.

April Nielsen Diary WONE No.2 in the market 6.2 (No.1 Akron station)

IMO won't get a better show for less money. Spatz a solid programmer.

Same consultant group for over 25 years, DeMers.

It has nothing to do with ratings or the performance skills of the on-air personality. It is simply an attempt to cut expenses to the bone, regardless of how it impacts the air sound. This is the critical mistake that commercial radio made some years ago: to not invest in local programming. This was a major advantage over nationally programmed alternatives, and they blew it. This may explain why radio listenership is generally diminishing.

ive said this once before.. RCRG seems to go through talent pretty regularly.... i think more than some, at least i think they would/should...... any idea why?

I hesitate to even mention this, but could they be paring down the station for a sale? After all, Thom Mandel is crowding retirement age.
Or maybe they talked Jeff Kinzbach out of retirement? But the ratings are good and the talent popular and well liked. I'm puzzled by this one.

*IF* a sale would occur I don't see them sold piecemeal, ideally all four stations would be sold together. I don't see that happening...yet. As for buyers? Based on today's economic environment I see two potentials; Townsquare and Connoisseur. Possibly IHR, of course would have to sell off what they have in Canton/Akron. I don't see the Klaus Family (WNIR) buying (all four).

Don’t forget EMF. I could see them expanding their Northeast Ohio holdings if they can be gotten for cheap.

I'd say no to all of them. TS has been shuttering stations, selling or turning in licenses. I doubt IHR or Connoisseur would want them... especially the later, out of their footprint and what would IHR Do with that AM?

I’d assume WQMX, WONE and likely WAKR would remain together in Akron. WNWV is the odd-man out in Rubber City’s stations. Maybe iHeart or Audacy would be willing to purchase it and operate from their Cleveland clusters, but considering their current finances this seems doubtful. EMF could look for Air 1 to add to their new WKLV or possibly River Radio could be a contender to get full Cleveland coverage.

If anything, Connoisseur probably can't wait to jettison WHBC AM/FM. It's in a small market where iHeart now dominates.

I know I mentioned Tim Daugherty in the morning (I do remember that he voice tracks from the west coast now) this weekend I happened to tune in WAKR and I heard him doing a Saturday morning show with his wife Sue Wilson. That is a nice Saturday AM show (Most likely voice tracked as well). Tim and Sue are both excellent on air.

Heck yeah it's voice-tracked. It plays at 8 am on Saturday morning and since he's on the west coast now, if it was live, means he'd have to start it at 5 AM out there. At this stage of the game I'm sure he's snoozing into the late mornings by now.

WONE socials promoting a "return" of a former staffer. $$$ is on Sandra Miller. She 'exited' when Jeff Kinzbach abruptly retired, because of the then Ops Manager Jeff Lynn and short-lived PD Craig Michaels, who was fired for sexual harrassment. Sandra unfortunately was collatarell damage. She's been on Y103 Youngstown since.
