FCC To Eliminate TV Caps

Somehow, the phrase "rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic" comes to mind. At this point in time, I don't think that loosening the ownership rules is likely to hurt, but it's also not likely to help...I just don't think it will make a significant difference at all.

I am inclined to agree. The major damage has already been done.

Someday, historians will look back at this period of time and conclude that broadcasting slowly killed itself, first with 80-90 on FM, then duopolies in television, then loosening ownership caps. (If they can figure out exact;ly what "broadcasting" was, that is.)

This is what happens when you have a public-private partnership, and leave the public service to profit-making companies. It's expensive to own and operate radio & TV stations. Advertising revenue isn't enough to cover the costs. So what's the solution? More regulations? Really? That's not the way to entice profit making companies to risk millions of their dollars on a declining technology.
