No local radio for Boston Pops on July 4th

Bloomberg is no longer covering the event as the national TV contract is now with the CW Network.

WHDH-TV Channel 7 will cover the entire concert starting at 7 PM, with the CW coverage beginning at 9.

In previous years, you could watch the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular streaming online thanks to the show’s media deal with Bloomberg. With a change in partnerships for 2025, as of now there have been no announcements about whether WHDH or CW will offer a way to watch the fireworks streaming online.

On a similar note, in previous years you could hear the Boston Pops concert on the radio through Bloomberg’s radio stations. That won’t be an option for 2025.

Didn't WCRB carry the Fourth's Pops concert in bygone days?

Covering the Pops concert on local television or on FM radio can benefit listeners and or viewers. However, televising the fireworks doesn't come close to creating an exciting, memorable experience to a viewer. Even streaming to a Cinema, with digital projection on a 40 foot screen cannot equal the excitment of watching fireworks outside, up close and in person. I will never forget watching a shuttle launch from Titusville, Florida. The sound of the rocket engines ripping through the air along with the visuals was an amazing experience you will never get on television.

What in the world does a shuttle launch have to do with fireworks? I and many other people love watching fireworks on television rather than being crammed in a giant crowd watching them outside. Just because you think it's better to watch them outside doesn't make it true that it's unexciting or memorable to watch them on TV. Not everyone can go to the Capitol, or a movie theater, or the banks of the Charles River, etc. to watch fireworks.

You missed to point. That's OK, you probably watch movies on your iPhone.

Whether its the rights to broadcast the 4th, The Kiss Concert or your favorite news host these posts all comeback to same reason that it seems like just hasn't sunk in here. No one has the promotional budgets, the staff, the money to do these things anymore. The end is near.

Commercial radio is being starved by the advertiser exodus. Non-commercial radio (except for the Godcasters) is being starved by its aging demographics (either dying off or elderly and Ill, and thus unable to donate as much as before or to donate anything at all) and, of late, by attacks originating from the federal government.
