Hudson Valley FOX Oldies 98.9

I used to fall asleep listening to their oldies, hosted by a female DJ. Now they switch at 10 PM to some recorded comedy routines from the 1940's. I have to change the dial. Soon I'll give up on WGNY-FM altogether. What happened?

I believe they have run (for years) old radio shows at night. As far back as the Joe Manglass days their disjointed attempt at oldies programming jolted to a stop with "When Radio Was", hosted by Art Fleming. Are they still running the horribly edited Pams jingles?

Well, I've had it with Fox Oldies! If they think we want to listen to 70 year old radio comedy I think they've made a big mistake! By the way - who was that female DJ at night?

When did you hear a female DJ in the evening on WGNY-FM? I have not listened to the radio in the evening for some time but the last I knew they had Joe Manglass on in the evening. And I do remember "When radio was" show on WGNY-FM for many years, perhaps since the station signed on the air. I agree it's awkwardly placed at 10PM. I always questioned the logic of putting it there, disrupting the flow of oldies. I thought it would be better at 11 before the 12-midnight logical break going into the overnights. Perhaps they thought it would get more attention there. I don't know and stopped trying to find a logical reason for Sunrise Broadcasting moves. Old time radio programs then might work, but I never cared for the shows they aired. One other note WGNY-FM plays a lot of music that is sixty years old.
I don't remember a woman jock on WGNY -FM in the evening, so I don't know to whom you are referring.

She was on right up until the end of June! And later than 10 PM! Unless I'm going senile, I swear they changed their programming schedule recently...

There's a non-paywalled story with details, but unfortunately it's on a rival website to Radio Insight, so you'll have to find it for yourself. Hint: Google News.

Thanks for the info. It still broadcasting WSPK?

Ok so this was recently. I thought by your original message she had been there for a long time. Since retiring I don't listen to the radio as much as when I worked evenings. Also " When Radio Was " has been on the station for years, in that same clunky disjointed time spot. WGNY web site is useless - that's not new- it doesn't list any on air talent.

I finally found the scoop on FB. Carol Barden was let go from from Fox Oldies 98.9 at the end of June for financial reasons. I will miss her show. If WGNY wants to save money, they should shut off their transmitter rather than replay 70 year old radio shows!
