June 2025 Bay Area Radio PPM Ratings

Here are the June 2025 San Francisco Radio PPM ratings:

And the June 2025 San Jose Radio PPM Ratings:

Any thoughts or observations?

KEXC is being killed.

Which is a shame, given how hyped up its launch was a year or so ago.

I don't listen, but it seemed like they were at least trying something genuinely different. Alas, SF doesn't seem interested in any of that anymore.

Almost exactly 16 months. March 19 of last year.

Could have been worse. VCY almost got their hands on it.

OK, I'll play the stupid game. We'll see if I win a stupid prize. San Francisco numbers only.

I'm sure they're not selling on it, but that KOIT cume number really jumped out at me.

The KDFC numbers are astonishing considering their coverage problems.

Without Giants broadcasts, one might think that KNBR and The Game would be just about even.

Live 105 gets a nice jump from a steady base. The bump might be temporary but they seem to have established themselves over the longer haul.

San Francisco is a great news and information market. Investing in quality pays off, even if KCBS is a bit diminished from what it was.

KSFO may have settled down to that 1.3 share; probably too soon to tell (radio for people who think they want to be well informed but really just want reinforcement). But, gosh, speaking of reinforcement, even K-Love does better.

The KEXC trend isn't good, but does it matter? The numbers that matter there are the amount of listener support they're pulling from the Bay Area.

They did have their hands on it for a few months, around February 2022. If it had been measured, it wouldn't have surprised me if the share for 92.7 would have been 0.02 rather than 0.2.

KSFO did very well in the South Bay. That's where they have done best, but, wow...they went up a full share!
I think 810 has better coverage down there, doesn't it?

That would probably explain the notable ratings bump, and perhaps is what Cumulus was after when they switched from 560.

Great to see KOSF holding strong. That’s my #1 preset in the market. The variety and personalities are all top notch.

It’s also interesting to see KUFX beating out KSAN in the San Francisco breakdown.

I'm OK with KYLD doing OK. It's my number one preset on my iHeart Radio app!

To be fair, it's a relatively new operation on a weak signal with a recent cursed history that only covers part of the market. Plus, almost all of the programming is still straight from Seattle. They're obviously into the Bay Area plan for the long haul, and they've got the money and resources to stick with it. Even more so than Pacifica, and they're still around. The Seattle station (KEXP) took years to build ratings with their own weak signal, so this is familiar territory. As for KEXC, An expanded local presence would certainly help.

That said, it is a non-com, so it's more about the revenue than the ratings. They'll be alright.

I'm not a listener to religious radio. That said, being from VCY's hometown of Milwaukee, where they have both a TV station and the most powerful FM signals in the market, I can attest that VCY's radio programming is truly awful. It's dull, stale, over-the-top conservative, not the least bit contemporary and just very crude. The TV operation is even worse. However, VCY became flush with cash after selling the UHF spectrum to their Milwaukee station for an obscene amount of money (WVCY-TV, Ch. 30 now piggybacks their 480i signal on the spectrum of the local FOX O&O station). Since the spectrum auction windfall, they've been buying up whatever radio stations they could. Never mind that there is no conceivable way that they get any kind of measurable audience. But, maybe they know more than I do. They haven't bailed out on any of their purchases. Yet.
