Station Sales Week Of 2/21

Looks like our local LPFM in Swedesboro was sold to Loud Media for $250K.

Aaron Ishmael’s Loud Media NJ will purchase AC “Pop-FM 99.9” 1240 WSNJ Bridgeton, 99.9 W260BW Swedesboro, and 105.7 W289CY Millville NJ from the Kenneth Pustizzi led SNJ Today LLC for $225,000. An immediate Time Brokerage Agreement was part of the deal. Ishmael is a partner in Loud Media that owns stations in Knoxville TN and upstate New York and Mid-Century Radio that owns stations in Fort Collins CO and Rapid City SD.

I honestly don't know much about the financials of the station to tell if that's a good sale price, but will be curious to see if the current format remains intact or they shift it to something like rock or alt. Their portfolio seems to lean that way, which could be interesting.

"Loud Radio" is owned by Major Keystone LLC... Loud Media is a completely different company. No relation at all. It flat out says so in the text Andy copied from RadioInsight what Aaron owns.

@andygradel Translators are NOT LPFM's. Different rules, different power levels.

At first I got my hopes up, considering it’s been nearly a decade since the departure of KISS 101.7.
 
Local listener from Pittsgrove here! My coworkers and I recently started listening to 99.9 and were curious if anyone knew about this "Random Music Radio". We quite enjoy the mix of music from the 1950s to contemporary stuff.

It's placeholder programming that the new WSNJ ownership previously utilized on one of their stations in Knoxville, TN.

... because there aren't enough listeners like @ToeJamb and co-workers to make an "all over the road" format saleable.

That said, I wonder what the new owners will spin the "wheel of formats" to. Presumably something "loud". :p
 
Loud Media’s stations here in the Knoxville market are well produced & fun to listen to. The problem is they are all rimshots or very low power translators, so they don’t make much of a dent ratings wise. But as far as the programming & production elements, they sound great. If they had better signals, they’d certainly be viable competitors in the market. Here in Knoxville they have a 90s & 2000’s throwback station, an alternative station, an active rock station, a classic hits station, & an oldies station. I listen quite a bit to the throwback station (104-9 KVL - WKVL) & the alternative station (Atomic 106 - WATO). I’m not sure how they are financially viable with the limitations of the rimshot signals, but I’m really glad they’re here in the area providing variety.
 
Update on this station: 99.9 FM switched frequency to 95.1 FM, and as of this week has taken on a ‘90s & 2000s rock format similar to WABY (Albany) & WVLZ (Knoxville), billing itself as “Wilmington’s Rock Station”.
 
Was listening to it for a bit over the weekend. Shocked to hear Corrosion of Conformity twice in two days. One of my favorite bands that's criminally under-rated.

Find it interesting they're positioning it as "Wilmington's Rock Station" when the signal is strongest here in Swedesboro, NJ and Wilmington is a bit of a rim shot, at best. Is that to try to sell it as a part of the 85th largest market, instead of the edge of the Philly market, where it'll never make it a blip?

Haven't heard any ads on it yet, so will be curious if there's actually anything local or just national spots.

There's one more hop coming for the translator to bring it right into Wilmington, but (as noted in my NERW column today) it's stalled out by the FCC shutdown.
 
Looks like they're starting to fill in their schedule with a couple voice tracked shifts:
  • Deanna - 3-7pm - She was previously at WJBR and weekends at MMR, but is now FT at a station in Nashville.
  • Ralph Renna - 7pm-Midnight - Looks like he's on a couple other "loud" stations.
Interesting mix so far with decent dose of hard '90s tracks from White Zombie, Gravity Kills (!), Megadeth, etc. that I haven't heard on terrestrial radio in ages combined with newer active rock cuts.

Haven't been able to pull them up on TuneIn, but they have an Alexa skill for "95.1 WSNJ"
 
So much for listening to WAYV in Wilmington anymore. It came in quite well especially in summer evenings. I already lost WFPG a few years ago when a LPFM signed on 96.9 relaying WXCY with country music.

The good news is that both stations stream online. You can listen anytime with no interference! You are not limited to summer evenings anymore.
So liberating!!!!
