The biggest effect could be availability on streaming. It’s very likely that YouTube tv would follow Hulu in dropping it since they won’t be affiliated with a network. The real effect probably won’t be felt until years down the road.
I watch a lot of CW shows. This is bad news, because if something goes wrong with cable, I don't have a station I can pick up with an antenna. Greensboro's CW I could pick up back in 2009 but they moved their tower farther north. I think it's a .2 channel of WXII, which I picked up only rarely.
I didn’t think about that. You’re probably right. I had DirecTV Stream at one point and they didn’t carry WAXN. I have YouTube TV now, and they carry it. But still, even losing one could be a big revenue hit.
Given Block Communications just sold out to Gray — creating a triopoly in Louisville KY and erasing one news department — a fire sale of Bahakel to Nexstar sounds increasingly likely.
WXII carries Me-TV on 12.2. WCWG is a full-power station on 20.1.
I dont see announcing of the shutdown of the WDRB news department but its probably likely. To get the FCC to agree they may have to keep it going. It will be interesting.
I don't think it will be a total shutdown, but consolidation of the WAVE and WDRB newsrooms, like what Meredith did to KTVK and KPHO, which are now Gray stations.
I feel that WCCB will go to Gray or Nexstar, but who would want the smaller market Bahakel stations? I'd guess they're bait for smaller groups like Coastal or Marquee, which don't care if they're chronic underperformers.
Nexstar is maxed out on ownership limits. They also just stole CW from Behakel. I can see Gray.

Odds are high that Brendan Carr will simply rubber stamp the deal. Gray is not CBS.
And it is very very likely that WDRB will become a rump of WAVE with massive job losses that Gray will spin as "great for the community" or whatever. Absolute shame.

I may have described the situation before. WJZY and WMYT in Charlotte have the same arrangement. WMYT is a .2 channel of WJZY but has its own channel, whatever that means.

Let it be a promo to tell you that it is official.
WJZY and WMYT share the same signal on RF channel 25. Which is a full power signal with a large coverage area similar to WBTV. So if you get WJZY with an antenna you will also receive WMYT. Channels 46 and 55.
I remember picking up WJZY with an antenna after the transition, but not dependably. The nightlight analog channel came in really well. With the antenna I have now I wouldn't have had all my signal problems with WMYT back in the days of analog.
What you describe seems to be what WCWG in Greensboro is doing with WXII.
I think I've switched all my season passes, as they call them, so I will record the show regardless of the channel. A few shows haven't aired episodes recently and I don't have recordings either so I'll have to remember when they come back.
Here in Spartanburg I pick up WBTV and WJZY literally with a paperclip. But with a real antenna I get a full 10 bars full strength signal. But depends upon location I guess.
Most of the time it is very difficult for me to get any signal from WCCB, though that might be due to my indoor antenna, or more likely distance (Lenoir area) and my lack of experience with relying on antenna reception and the tips and tricks thereof (my TV-watching experience has exclusively been by way of cable and satellite until these last couple years).

Well, sure, you're on that side of the market. Those stations are too far away for me.
I've been reluctant to get an outdoor antenna because it seems hard to find someone to install one. I have trees. And what if something happens and the antenna needs repairing?
