KCOH applies for new tower site

The currently silent KCOH 1230 has applied to construct a new transmitter facility at an existing tower in Pasadena used by KFTG 88.1. Power would be 550 watts full time.

Of course we have no idea what programming for the revived station might be. The previous “KCOH” leased format had moved to KRCM 1380 after the Ennis tower collapse, but disappeared a few months ago.

More like how cost effective.
It was probably the only realistic solution, as I doubt the Ennis tower is going to be rebuilt.

It’s going to be a terrible signal for covering the market. I suspect Spanish language religion is on the way, or it gets leased as an originating station for a translator, and there are several that need one. Might be cheaper to lease an FM HD subchannel, however.

Wonder if there is a client already lined up? Not sure I would bother with a new site unless potential programming was in place.

550 Watts? It couldn't reach very far with 1KW. AM1230 will have to program to the reachable area and hope if they can get the advertisers.

Like several other posters I believe this station will end up "feeding" a translator. Unless there is superior ground conductivity they will use the "25 mile rule".

Personally if you have your own AM station to "feed" a translator you don't have to worry about someone else kicking you off or jacking up the rent for use of their HD2, 3 or 4 channel. Also legally if they have an HD issue you are supposed to sign off.
