Maine WZLO now part of Mix 107.9

While In Bangor recently and doing a band scan to see what was new, I found Stephen King's former WZLO 103.1 which signed off at the beginning of the year is back on the air, now re-broadcasting WFMX 107.9 Skowhegan. "Mix 107.9". However, the WZLO FM translator on 98.3 (W252CT) remains silent as of Friday Aug. 8.

Also of note: WRMN 91.7 Ellsworth has been silent for several weeks now, apparently malfunctions at their tower on Beechland Road

That puts WZLO in competition with 94.5 WKSQ, both AC stations. WKSQ is licensed to Ellsworth, south of Bangor and WZLO is licensed to Dover-Foxcroft, north of Bangor. WZLO counts on that 98.3 translator to give it coverage of Bangor as it only has 1,500 watts.

Bangor is "over-radioed"

I count ten commercial FM stations serving Bangor and its surrounding counties. 92.9 Sports, 94.5 AC, 95.7 Classic Rock, 97.1 Country, 100.3 Rock, 103.1/98.3 AC (formerly AAA), 103.9 Talk, 104.7 Classic Hits, 106.5 Country and 107.3 Top 40. Some of those are licensed to cities 30 or more miles away.

I guess 10 FM stations is a lot for Market #208. And there are a few AMs as well, some with translators.

Also add WNSX "Star 977" to the list, although primarily serving Downeast, it does put a decent signal into Bangor/Brewer from their new tower in Gouldsboro.

WZLO's COL is a bit misleading. It's tower is now halfway between Dover (It's COL) and Bangor. You also have to remember Mix took over control of Port Broadcasting's Bangor stations and is already simulcasted on 94.1 & 95.1 which cover Bangor.

Also 98.3 is tied to AM620 now, the only reason it was ever tied to WZLO is it was tied to a subchannel of WKIT when Stephen King owned the station.

Bangor is "over-radioed"

and is just a bunch of simulcasts. It's sad.
