Pensacola/Fort Walton Several translators on the move in Pensacola

I've noticed over the last few days that most of the ADX translators (like W256DL), plus the ones for WRNE and WDWR are moving off the WDWR tower and onto an existing comms tower at Englewood Park. The move will put them all about a mile west of their current location.

I haven't seen anything about issues with the WDWR AM tower, but it wasn't that long ago that it was rebuilt, right?

It looks like a good move for all the involved parties. A simplified setup with a shared antenna, a little bit more height, a little bit more coverage. A win win all around.

It appears the City of Pensacola has terminated the lease on the WDWR tower site, which is a city-owned plot. The Pensacola News-Journal reported in August 2024 that the tower would be demolished in 12-18 months.

I wonder what the purpose was in them signing a 20 year lease for the tower on city property if the city is just going to undo it when it's beneficial to them.

And what will happen to WDWR? There hasn't been anything filed from them yet other than their translator… seems like time is running out of this happened last year.

WDWR’s owners weren’t exactly truthful with the city when the Long Hollow translator tower was built. Now the land is needed for stormwater runoff. This has been in the works for a decade. Some articles are referenced on your ABMP WDWR page.
