ESPN Radio comes to WFNZ

Charlotte, North Carolina – September 4, 2025 Radio One, Inc. and Sportsradio 92.7 WFNZ, are proud to announce a new partnership with ESPN Radio, bringing the “Worldwide Leader in Sports” to Charlotte’s airwaves starting today.

This move brings ESPN’s premiere nightly shows, and exclusive content to Charlotte’s leading sports station and further solidifies WFNZ’s position as “Home of the Charlotte Sports Fan.”

"ESPN has long set the standard for covering the biggest live sporting events and the athletes who define them," said Jeff Rickard, Program Director at WFNZ. "We’re thrilled to team up for premier play-by-play and insightful nightly conversation. Combined with our award-winning local lineup, this partnership gives Charlotte the very best in local and national sports coverage.”

Listeners can expect coverage of marquee events, such as the NBA Finals, College Football Playoffs, Major League Baseball, and more, now seamlessly integrated into a lineup that already includes trusted local voices and some of the biggest names in sports talk.

Radio One, Inc. – Charlotte Vice President & General Manager Marsha Landess adds, “We could not be more excited to be ESPN’s new radio home in Charlotte. The iconic sports brand of ESPN and the historic sports brand of WFNZ 92.7 makes a perfect combination to deliver our Charlotte sports fans the best in local and national sports coverage every day of the week on a strong and powerful FM signal. We now truly deliver the best of the best!”

With this new partnership, WFNZ becomes the ultimate destination for fans looking for sports coverage, whether it’s the pulse of Charlotte’s local teams or the latest headlines across the sports world.

I’m surprised that they are not having to clear some of the ESPN daytime shows on their schedule. I believe that they dropped ESPN before for that reason.

Does anyone know if WFNZ airs the play by play broadcasts that ESPN Radio offers of College Football, etc. when they don't conflict with Hornets games, or do they stay in local programming?
