Demolition on the Brutalist-style building, originally constructed for KLZ radio and TV when Time-Life owned that combo in the 1960s, began this week. Some preservationists lobbied to have the building at 123 Spear Blvd. declared to be of historic interest, but that effort failed. Eventually, an 11-story apartment tower will be built on the site. KLZ-TV is now KMGH-TV, channel 7, owned by Scripps. KMGH moved last year from 123 Spear to a new building in the RiNo (River North) neighborhood north of downtown.
