San Diego August 2025 PPM Ratings

Two takeaways:

There's no denying the power of the Padres...KWFN ranked #2 with 6.9 share

And KFBG...what happened??? They went .06-1.1-.04. They were slowly building momentum, and now went bust. Is it too early to tell if 'Frontera' is a failure?

I’m very interested in the sudden drop with 91X by 1 number.

Garett left the station (the station’s previous PD) and now Hilary is also in PD position. The playlist hasn’t changed as much but there’s been some additions into the rotation of selected 2000’s-2010’s gold (for example, say Alabama Shakes or The Struts), and some classic songs that were on rotation during Garett’s tenure now being the lunar rotation (say a one hit wonder from the 80’s), as well as some deeper songs from certain 80’s artists being on rotation. Outside of that, the classic alternative format hasn’t changed much and the new songs are still one per hour.

I wonder if this newer mix has some people a bit disinterested? I love it but that’s because I like more variety in stations, I noticed from June to July it worked but the past month it seems it didn’t.

91X's numbers are returning to earth after losing the 100.7 simulcast.

Audacy made the right call taking 97.3 in an FM Sports direction. Remember, this station was originally going to be a "Hot Talk" station in the vein of the old 97.1 FM Talk in Los Angeles.

The billboard controversy blowback that prompted Audacy to rethink its programming choices for the station turned out to be a gigantic blessing for them.

Here's a look at the specific demo rankings. As expected, KXSN and KWFN rule all three, and with double digit ratings. KWFN apparently even doubled it's share.

Pretty incredible for an inferior signal carrying a sports format in a market that is widely considered to be a “bad sports town”.

The simulcast happened like two months ago though.

The only reason San Diego is considered a “bad sports town” is because we’ve had a football team taken away from us due to a greedy owner.

Also I wonder why Sunny does so good, I guess this city just wants to hear the same classic hits they could hear on like 5 other stations

With 50kw, KWFN The Fan is a full Class B signal. Their tower is in the southern part of the metro, so it's a bit weaker in the generally-higher-income North County. But they've covered most of the shadowed areas with multiple boosters.

Actually...
* The audience income level profile of the classical audience is what help sustain and extend the viability of commercial Classical stations back in the day all the way into the 1980s, despite their smaller overall audience size.
* The audience income level profile of all-news helps boost the rates those stations charge up to the current day.

91X went up again.

Generally, the stations got revenue from the same companies that support symphony orchestras and The Arts in general. It was not about the affluence of the listeners but about the convictions of the supporters.
* The audience income level profile of all-news helps boost the rates those stations charge up to the current day.
With a couple of exceptions, such as WTOP, all news stations tend to make up for lower rates by selling more ads per hour. The fact is that in other markets, the audience is older and not replacing 25-54 listeners who age out with new ones.
