Bert Retiring

Wow. What a run he's had. Congratulations to him. I doubt that at the show's outset, he had any idea of the huge success he was to experience (and he confirmed that in his Friends of Georgia Radio acceptance speech).

This certainly has implications for Q99-7 and quite possibly for other stations (as well as the stations in other markets that carry the show).

This may be an unexpected opportunity for Star 94 to gain some traction in morning drive. Bert listeners will be looking around for something new. Expect to see a lot of advertising at the end of October.

The way this worked in Boston when Matty Siegel retired is his co-hosts became the new show.

It's now the Billy & Lisa show.

Interesting that they had since January to choose a replacement and still haven't. You'd think theyd already have their ducks in a row to announce a new show as soon as Bert announced his retirement.

Bert is a good guy. I met him at a radio awards show in 2004. I was producing AM Atlanta with Tom Hughes on the late great WGST. We were up against Bert for top morning show. Needless to say, we lost to Bert, but with all the excellent local morning radio shows in Atlanta at the time, it was an honor to be nominated and great to meet him. He will be missed, but he has to do what is right for his life.

I have noticed Q has been placing temporary one week long morning shows in place of the former Bert Show. Any idea when the wheel will stop spinning and will land on a final morning show for Q?
