Believe it or not, I’m not a huge Tejano fan (despite of my username 😂) I was excited about the launch said it was being said that there was going to be lots of new music and new bands that don’t get air play. But the few times I have listened it seemed to be playing all the old Tejano, Jay Perez, David Lee Garza, Gary Hobbs, ect ect. I was expecting more of conjuntos and mix with Norteño light but that seems to not be the case. Still has some good La Mafia, Emilio, Mazz. But still not enough for me personally to switch to it. Plays lots of core Tejano, was expecting other bands such as EZ BAND, Grupo Vidal, Nuevo Régimen, they have lots of English norteño and cumbias songs that in my opinion would fit on that station. But also I’m just a musician and listener who sales auto parts for a living 😂. But still glad Haed Core Tejano listeners have what they wanted. Last full Tejano was KQQK before it became XO on 107.9.

WHAT COULD WORK ON 106.1?

This is a variant of the reason why nobody filed a complaint over 25 years ago against the Farmworker union-owned non-commercial FM in Phoenix. It ran ads with price-item content, calls to action and everything else that was prohibited to a non-com.
None of us wanted to appear opposed to the work of the union. There would often be high-level discussions, particularly when the took a commercial account from one of the commercial stations. But no complaint was ever filed, despite years of egregious violations of the rules for a non-commercial station.
I’m saying cause people always assume I’m a HUGE TEJANO MUSC FAN due to my username. I’m a proud Texan, proud to be born and raise in Houston. Me being Texan has nothing to do with Tejano Music. I love all sorts of music in Spanish, Norteño, Mariachi, Banda, Tejano, Reggaeton, some bachata ,
And many more, except Duranguense and the new Corridos tumbados. I can’t stand those 2. 😂 I like Tejano but not a Diehard Tejano music fan. I like some but not all.
Probably because I never brought it up.
But it makes sense due to minor shadowing + multipath KAMA received from the downtown buildings towering over the Fourth Ward area. I'm sure we could speculate about what was going on at 105.3, but that discusson has been beaten to death. All I will say is that a direct LOS really helped 105.3 splatter around their own sidebands.
After 105.3 came back on the air, I never ran into that issue ever again. My guess is they brought in someone who knew what they were doing after their first stint and dialed back the interference.
I'd take it a bit farther and add all the hot, trendy norteño bands to an accordion heavy playlist. But I don't believe that's the route they're going. Now that's not criticism by any means. There's nothing wrong with seeing if a stereotypical Tejano station can attract buyers. For all we know, that can still be a profitable presentation. All you need is great salespeople.
But if it doesn't work with local buyers, then I'd rework the format. Drop the "Puro Tejano" name for something trendier ("Hot 106" would've been a great ode to the former "La Caliente de Houston KQQK") and retool the playlist to focus on a much wider, bilingual audience without any of the synthesizer music. "Norteño Lite" is definitely something I'd add to the playlist if "Puro Tejano" doesn't move the needle.

This is a very unique launch . In the last 4-5 days our social media went from 14k to 23k. Our reach in that time frame has exceeded 2.5 million on Facebook alone . Our stream is at about 10k a day(with no on air mention of it yet ) About 12 new accounts ready to go on the air . Tons of people supporting it and excited about it on tiktok. But like you said it’s going to come down to sales people . Once we do any norteño I think we will turn many people away .. again we don’t know what we don’t know .

Listening today (via stream) they are doing their TOH legal ID as "K291CE Houston." No mention of an originating station. Other than that, it's a good mix of music for those who like Tejano.
Those are very promising signs.
These are important numbers for your salespeople to remember and reiterate to small businesses. Throw in menial mentions, such as your studio name, the naming rights to AM and PM shows, or even rolling ads on the RDS, as "free" incentives to help your salespeople as much as you can.
You're correct about that. In my experience, older Tejanos tend to be picky about their music. My intention is not to generalize, but there are a lot of Tejanos that come preprogrammed with stubbornness and a hint of xenophobia towards Mexican culture. There's a reason why so many of them are more likely to listen to Country music than Regional Mexican music.
My earlier advice was only for a new launch. But since you've already chosen your route, you should stick to it. The excitement is there and now it's up to you to parlay that into something worthwhile.

With all of this 'translator talk' -does anyone have any intel on the 97.3 in my city of Richmond? They lit it up MONTHS ago. While the carrier is on, the audio is inaudible (even with my radio cranked up all the way.) I have yet to hear a Legal ID, and even if they run them you cannot hear them. It appears to be running some sort of a Spanish/Religious format best I can tell. I drove out to where <I think> they are allegedly originating from and there was a sign on the gate indicating that stations were transmitting from there, but nothing that indicated that 97.3 is one of them. I guess if nobody knows, nobody cares-including the operators, who are clearly oblivious to their own technical deficiencies. Also, did the 96.1 in Sugar Land sign off? Have not come across it on the seek-scan in quite a while.
I believe is Radio aleluya after they moved from 100.7.

The 97.3 signal had extremely low audio (essentially useless) the few times I’ve heard it when in that area.
Supposedly rebroadcasts KQUE 980.
I’ve heard some rumblings in the past about different future plans for the translator, but nothing recent.
Gow Media filed a number of complaints with the FCC regarding potential interference to KFNC.
Updating my own post: At a couple of recent checks the audio on K247CX 97.3 is at a decent level now, but quality is rather rough. Continues to rebroadcast KQUE 980.
-which tells me that they monitor this website, but they never seem to monitor their own signals.
