Hundreds. They are “all over the place” arresting and repatriating Dominicans, estimated to be as much as 8% of the Island population, and Venezuelans who have come to use the coastline for drug operations and human trafficking. You can see daily articles in El Nuevo Día or on NotiUno and WKAQ, the two major news and talk stations.

Do a search on “ICE raids in Puerto Rico 2025” and you will see many many reports, including ones by anti-ICE protesters.

Having worked in radio in Puerto Rico as either manager or consultant since 1970, and having three daughters who are “Boricuas”, I follow the local news every day and chat or text with friends there considerably. The illegal problem has been an issue since the 80’s when Dominicans started coming across the Mona passage in rafts and small fishing boats. There is a huge area in San Juan that used to be a working class neighborhood that is now nearly 100% Dominican..

You can see the link I posted earlier where you can see dozens and dozens of reports and news items about ICE activities on the Island.

Yet, as I already said, the illegal immigrants from the Dominican Republic are taking away jobs from Puerto Ricans. The unemployment rate on the island is the highest in the United States and the huge number of Dominicans work for lower wages and under poorer conditions.

Bad Bunny is an amazing performer, musician, composer, and entertainer. But he still does not have, like many people his age, a realistic world view.
 
The thing with the Super Bowl Halftime Show, nowadays, is that the NFL actually demands that artists pay for the privilege. So, obviously no more U2, McCartney or Prince. And I'm sure that was a dealbreaker for Taylor Swift (Adele also turned it down, but for reasons of incompatibility). That's how they wind up with The Weeknd.

As for me, I'm pretty indifferent. I'm not very familiar with Bad Bunny, but his selection pisses off the people I like to piss off, so I like that. However, I was hoping for Metallica, AC/DC (while they're still capable of performing) or Weird Al Yankovic (which would probably never happen, but would be beyond awesome).

I really doubt "the artist" pays. More likely the label pays. Or some associated sponsor connected to the artist. Someone of his stature has money that's connected to him that supports things like this. They might get some recognition during the performance.

None of those will ever happen with Jay-Z calling the shots. If ever a Super Bowl site made sense for a show featuring classic rock, it would be San Francisco (Santa Clara, technically), with its long history in the genre. But Jay-Z goes rhythmic (regardless of specific genre) 100 percent of the time.
