An interesting choice for an oldies selection on WDLW was the airing of the Cleveland-based band Wild Horses and their locally popular single "Funky Poodle" from 1980. The single was first released on their own label, which I have a copy of. Later, it was released on the Sweet City label who had a relationship with the big Epic label.

On YouTube, there are two versions of the song, one is said to be from 1964, the other from 1968. The 1968 version is on a Various Artists compilation album that I recognize that the radio station has. By 1968, the sound of the song was out-of-date as it sounded like a 1950s or early 1960s song.

I play it on CLEOldies, along with other "Pride of CLE" acts, including The Grasshoppers (Ben Orr), James Gang (Kent), MSB, Joe Jeffrey Group, Raspberries, Eric Carmen, Beau Coup, Poni Tails, Outsiders, Euclid Beach Band, The Choir, Moonglows, OJays (Canton), Boz Scaggs (Canton), Pretenders (Akron), and more. I'm going to have to do some rooting around and see if I can find my "Funky Poodle" 45

I think you should consider yourself lucky that WDLW was willing to play that record. Most oldies stations neither play local bands nor songs by big artists that were local hits only. Why? Because people move so much that the majority of the stations' listeners will not remember either the local outfit or the local hit song by the national artist. As of right now, I can only think of two other oldies/classic hits radio stations that occasionally play local acts or local hits (usually it's the latter): WAKY in Louisville, KY, and KYNO in Fresno, CA. Also, I do not expect this trend to continue as the audience for these songs is getting older and the advertising agencies no longer want to service them.
I'm still looking for a full, clean copy of "So Much In Love" by The Munx. I'm surprised it got little to no airplay in the area despite it being a group from the Sandusky/Lorain area. The song is great -- sounds like a Buckinghams composition.
Is this "So Much In Love" the same song that was a #1 hit as by the Tymes in 1961 and became a Top 5 hit by All-4-One in 1994?

Yes, it's a more up-tempo remake from 1967-68 ish. I looked at some radio station surveys from that time, and it wasnt even a pick hit that could officially make the Top "x" survey the following week.
There are copies for sale in Discogs, one of which is advertised as in excellent condition. Don't know about ebay.
