This just in: FCC commissioners to testify before the senate:

They say it probably won't happen until November since the gov't is shut down.

I wonder what the sports contracts say about dropping the OTA signals. Would the NFL allow it.
I’m so glad someone asked this. The leagues would have a major problem with ABC or whoever “dumping” their affiliates and becoming a standalone service on Hulu. I know we’ve been talking about broadcast audiences falling. But the audience number for tv is still very much in the millions and not 50 people, like some on this board think

I know this is a discussion board and we’re all allowed to discuss what we want. But I can tell you. The affiliate models aren’t going away anytime soon. Local affiliates need networks. Without programming, there’s no reason to watch a station. Just because WANF (a constant loser in Atlanta market) and Local 10 (an independently owned station) went indie, it doesn’t means a flood of stations will do the same thing. There’s sales contracts already for the next year in place. If anything, ABC won’t dump Nexstar/sinclair. Instead there will be more arm twisting from ABC when negotiations come around

They're all shifting their audiences to their streaming platforms.
Then if networks believe so little in their affiliates, they wouldn’t bother adding more hours of sports programming and they’d just make all games available exclusively on streaming. No one has done that. In fact, CBS just signed a deal worth billions with the UFC
