WWRZ Max 98.3 gone 10/1

Max switched to Joy just a few minutes after midnight (around 12:12am) on Wed 10/1.

(I only have the facts from the Max side of the changes - not sure how Joy sounded or when they took over)

Last few songs before the switch:

Everybody Have Fun Tonight (Wang Chung)
What I Am (Edie Brickell & New Bohemians)
(One last spot break)
Movin' Out (Billy Joel)

Then a liner... "Don't be shy Max, play something that will leave me scratching my head".

The final song played before the switch was So Long, Farewall (the Sound of Music) with a few seconds of silence (we're guessing) before Joy took over, and the switch of Max's program audio to 107.1/95.9 happened.

Over on 107.1/95.9, the TOH ID played, "WONN Lakeland Winter Haven Bartow, Max at 107.1 and 95.9, Playing it All"

The first song played after Max flipped over was "I Wanna Be Rich" by Calloway.

With this change, Fox Sports Lakeland on 1230AM is no more, as Max now originates from 1230AM for the FM translator access. The Fox Sports format lasted about 13 months, before the WONN flipped back to a musical format. MyMaxMusic.com is their new domain for the station.

And it looks like the same helpful soul who caught the Shark flip to K-LOVE captured the Max to Joy flips as well.

(And my times in last post might have been off some)

I assume that has been fixed. Soon HD3 will be LF Radio and HD2 will be Joy Worship which will feed 96.3 and 106.1 translators soon. And for first time Classic Joy will be on a RTN signal on HD4.

It is a shame that Hall Communications never installed HD on WPCV. They could still use the translators for "Max", not have to sacrifice WONN and (for those listening to HD) have Max on HD2 with a really good signal.

Agreed. 97.5's signal has perhaps the most land coverage in the state. An HD subchannel on there could do rather good (better coverage than those translators). Just promote it along with the translators.
And as for 1230 WONN which (from what I could see) they're not promoting, bring back that nostalgia format they once had. It's not like you can't hear fox sports radio everywhere.

Hall Communications seems to concentrate on WPCV. It's very popular and as mentioned previously may have the best coverage of populated land in Florida.

Glad to hear you enjoyed them! Heard about these in the works and fired up the recorders. Gonna miss MAX (at) 98.3. It moved to 1230 WONN and its translator 107.1 W296CS plus newly-acquired 95.9 W240DB, but during times of tropo it's overtaken by WAOA and WROK respectively.

I genuinely didn't expect "So Long, Farewell" as the final song, but just as the liner predicted, I was definitely scratching my head.
