790 KABC Local News Readers

Oh I can tell. Kabc is making a huge mistake now. Get me in there to program that station. I’d make it into a 2 share by the end of the year

Oh, you could ... when so many have gone before you and failed?

Look, let's face it. Go read any of the threads about KABC and its current programming. It's there to clear Westwood One programming and get whatever pay-for-play business that it can (sports, infomercials, etc.).

Cumulus is stuck with a lone AM, with a less than desirable signal, and even if they listed it with a broker they wouldn't get any takers. I don't believe they even have local studios and offices since they vacated the old La Cienega building; the official mailing address on the FCC license records is the corporate offices in Atlanta.

Until the cost of running it on autopilot substantially exceeds what revenue it can bring in, it is what it is.

I've always wondered why daytime power is lower than night time. I'm in San Diego, at least 100 miles or more from their transmitter site, and they have a strong signal here, both day and night
KABC moved from a site on the Westside which featured much better ground conductivity than at the new site. The station was 5kW day ND, 5kW DA-N. The power increases partially make up the difference. This is possible because many years ago the FCC took the 5 kW max power cap off of regional channels, allowing higher power "as long as it fits". For example the LA's KEIB 1150 many years ago was ND 5kw D, 1 kW night. The station is now DA 50 kw-D 44 kW-N. Interestingly, their nighttime signal in the SFV is actually no better now than it was way back then. Especially since they are virtually wiped out by 1160 KSLs digital sideband. Your area's KCBQ 1170 experiences the same problem in parts of North County.

By moving the tower, the company pocketed $125 million. Today, the entire Cumulus company isn't worth that much money.

If you drive down La Cienega today, you'll see a huge office tower on the site with the word Cumulus along the side.

Guess they decided against looking for more oil...

The oil pumps are younger than KABC’s listeners

I wonder if they scrapped their own copper at the former site to prop up that number? :ROFLMAO:

If so, I guess one could say the Cumulus clouds are gathering.

I know you're being facetious, but the truth is that the ground radials had to be removed before the parcel was redeveloped.

The job description stated whoever is hired would have the opportunity to host a show and do remotes... We'll see if Art Webb ends up hosting an actual "local" talk show.

On another note: Any truth to the rumors that KNX, and other Audacy All news outlets will be going with in house anchoring, and ABC news audio for the reports, when CBS news ends?

I was working there up until a month ago- The building is empty excpet for the amazing board op- KABC simply gave up, as did KRLA wih its taped news in the mornings....radio is choosing to load the gun that it will use to blw its brains out

Cumulus announced after its first bankruptcy that it was leaving NY and LA. Towards that goal, it sold off all its stations in those two markets except KABC. I suspect the only reason they still have it is because nobody will buy it. They have announced they are working on selling the former KSFO in San Francisco.

KRLA is a different story. They're owned by Salem, who runs most of their AM stations as outlets for their syndicated shows.

That wouldn’t surprise me considering some (all?) Audacy all news stations already use ABC news audio, in addition to CBS News audio.
