94.5 WCMS Hatteras is History

I saw this at RadioInsight.com a few days ago:

The FCC cancelled the licenses of two stations for being silent for over 365 days: Grace Missionary Baptist Church’s 1530 WFIC Collinsville VA and Jam Media Solutions’ 94.5 WCMS-FM Hatteras NC.

My understanding is the owner was seeking a buyer but the clock ran out. Sad to see this 100kw Outer Banks signal go permanently silent.

I am very surprised that K-Love did not buy that station.

It was just a license. I'm thinking I'd heard it was hurricane damage, but the facility needed serious repairs and might have even needed to be rebuilt from the ground up.

The remainder of Jam's stations in the Outer Banks found buyers but were in better states.

A little off-topic, wonder why 'FIC was silent all that time? Last time I was in NC, heard them cutting through the static and thought it strange to hear them on there (GMBC/FBN), because I was used to hearing Country/Bluegrass on that frequency, but I digress. Wonder just how long 'FIC had been off-the-air?

The tower itself was purchased by another company and the I was told the 94.5 waveguide had lightning damage and holes in it. K-LOVE is already transmitting from the same tower, licensed to the same community, on 97.1 FM. I guess the power increase to 100kW if they purchased 94.5 was not even worth it for them. It's just more coverage over ocean water.
