What's up with WOW's processing?

This station used to sound decent, but the audio processing, whether broadcast or streaming, seems to be a "wall of sound" which sounds very fatiguing. Between this and the frequent "Call Rafi Rafi" commercials, no wonder why their ratings are suffering.

They've been cutting in and out at times, at different times on 94.9 and 95.1.

Purely from a sound perspective, KAZG's HD2 feed on KDKB sounds a whole lot better than that of KOAI-FM. I still like much of the music the latter plays but there are times that what I hear sounds more like mumbling than music due to the heavy bass compression.

Listening to the Rafi Law jingle is light years better (and catchy) than the advertising drivel from (insert name of any accident attorney) that's out there on the airwaves.

I'm not a believer in the "one copy fits all formats" method of advertising. I don't really think his jingle resonates with the core audience of The WOW Factor, especially if aired at every commercial break on the station. Just like I don't think the "homestyle" ads of Blue Bell Ice Cream fits the KUPD format.

But then, stations like WOW have to grab every ad dollar that they can with other advertisers not wanting to reach the target audience.

I'm in Phoenix and the stream pretty much sounds like what one would hear on the radio. I'm guessing that KOAI may have geofenced its stream again--the other stations owned by this group have never stopped geofencing their streams.
It's geofencing for sure then. You and @LamptimerFan both hear it but it gives me a 0 byte response then drops the connection. Thanks for checking.

I just wanted to know how wall of sound their wall of sound was. :)

Agree. The Rafi ads automatically make me switch regardless of the station, but they're especially out of place on WOW.

Same here, but then again maybe WOW is the only station that'll take their ads. I haven't heard them on any station I listen to, but that doesn't mean a whole lot.

His ads are all over the dial (iHeart, Audacy, etc.), but mainly on the youth-targeted stations. This could be a custom deal which includes the other two Zelus stations. Still, it sounds out of place on WOW.
