YouTube TV may lose Disney, ESPN channels

Seriously, I am pretty sure the network affiliation contracts give the network the right to negotiate the affiliates' carriage on streaming services, and it's not likely to be eliminated in the future…
Would this make the local affiliate’s retransmission consistent agreement with YTTV null and void?

There is no such agreement. The retrans/must carry rules apply only to traditional cable/satellite providers. Streamers like YTTV, Fubo, Sling and Hulu make national carriage deals directly with the networks that cover all of their affiliates.

I guess my earlier explanation didn't make it clear. I don't know why I bother anymore.

You definitely made it clear that Disney was negotiating for all its affiliates, no matter the ownership.
Maybe my response was a little off. Sinclair has no negotiating power for network affiliates (WEAR Pensacola in my case) with internet streaming providers? None of the (well known) cable/satellite rules apply? Not even for local content?

Answering all three questions, in order: No, they do not. Not for streaming. No, the authority for stream negotiations by the network covers the station as a whole.

I see that ESPN simulcast its College Gameday show on X. It would have been nice for the Worldwide Leader to do a favor for those of us who are already paying it as well as YouTube by simulcasting its ESPN and ESPN2, ABC games on ESPN+, which would allow subscribers to the ESPN Select service to access the games. But apparently no such favor is forthcoming. Fortunately, most SEC and ACC games wind up being pirated and streamed on YouTube (Last night's NC-Syracuse game, for example), so I guess that will be YouTube TV subscribers' only option other than risking malware on the European-based illegal streamers.

I am certain you realize that's exactly the way they want it during a retrans dispute.

"Would have been nice" doesn't apply when a blackout like this occurs.

What gets me, is that the average viewer (not the usual reader/poster here who understands how these work) has bigshots all over social media who see the ads or don't understand how retrans works....and they post things like "Take away my ABC/ESPN? Bye Bye forever, YouTube TV." The same people who say "Southwest Airlines is now charging for bags like everyone else? You'll never catch ME flying their airline again." You know as well as I do that if Southwest is still $50 less than any other airline, you'll quietly book them and fly them. If YouTube TV has the best selection of channels or the best value for the channels that you want, you'll keep them despite this setback (because the rest of us know that these parties will eventually come to a deal, probably sooner than later and ABC/ESPN/Disney will return their channels to your service...just like eventually the government will end the shutdown, probably sooner than later (we hope). You may leave YouTube TV over this and join Sling or DirecTV or cable, and then in a couple of weeks when Disney comes back, and you miss the other channels on YouTube TV, you'll come crawling back (or maybe you'll hang onto the new service until THEY start having issues and drop some of their channels).

Almost. In Phoenix, the ESPN channels are back, but KNXV/15 is not. They have a "stay tuned" placeholder in its place as I write this.

EDIT: Now it says "On Demand Only."

WVNY Burlington, VT, owned by Mission Broadcasting, a minor player, but with a shared services agreement with Nexstar's WFFF, is also not back. No placeholder, no nothing, The channel just does not appear in the guide. Friction between Disney and some of the ABC affiliates it does not own outright?

As of 10 PM MST, ABC15 is back.
