October 2025 Bay Area Radio PPM Ratings

Here's one: what's up -- actually, what's down -- with KOIT? They have three times the cume of KDFC (or anyone else), and yet KDFC has slipped into the #3 position with almost a full share point ahead of KOIT. That indicates that listeners are punching it up, not liking what they're hearing and not sticking around. If you spend any time listening to KOIT these days, the sound is so overprocessed that it distorts on some radios (including some of mine). I tried listening in the car last evening and couldn't stick with it more than 10 minutes. If they don't fix that problem, they're going to destroy what it took them decades to build.

That is a poor and unusual comparison. Classical music stations generally have low cume and high TSL. AC stations have higher or just "high" cume and shorter TSL.

On the other hand, if KOIT has "PPM Derangement Syndrome" and over-pushes its PPM "enhancement" device, that could be an issue. But then again, AC stations target women (in a gender fluid era) in a market that is a lot less prone to "national averages" so some of this may be a traditional format wearing thin.

In San Jose, that may be a factor in driving some of those listeners over to country KBAY.
