They'd be imbeciles if they do. The only reason to do this is to put cheap filler on those HD subchannels.
KDXX already has "filler" in a Tejano format, Weiser. The HD3 is Indian programming, however, I'm not sure whether this is to feed a DFW translator or if it's exclusively digital. Why would you replace those two offerings with two coming from NYC? The Indian programming is paid for. So, are they walking away from that guaranteed money to do this?
They already own the NYC stations and their programming, so they won't have to pay any additional to retransmit them (or at least not very much).
I believe you are misunderstanding what the 🐸 and I are saying. Local inserts will be needed, so that it gives an, at the very least, impression that someone's home in Dallas. Texas, Dallas-Fort Worth in particular, isn't a big fan of anything New York. I mean, the Giants and Yankees are our bitter rivals. They are both, almost, despised as much as the Eagles and Redskins.
Heck for, we don't eat anything but Pace picante sauce down here, y'know.
No one here is crazy enough to say they should minimize New York talk and focus on WBLS and Hot 97, but if it's to be a direct simulcast of the two being pipes into DFW and HOU, it will be less meaningful than what's already being broadcast on the subchannels. Let's be honest. This would not be happening if these MediaCo stations were targeting English-speaking listeners on the primary. Their bet, apparently, is that the Mexican community in these two massive Texas cities won't care and/or won't even notice.
But the real money's made in NYC, and you don't screw with your golden geese in their home market.
Agreed. You just can't expect it to be well-received in a state that is, currently, the polar opposite of most everything that the city of New York represents.
