Spanish-Language Religious Radio Group Expanding

The people behind KLSY, KBRO and their affiliates (Centro Familiar Cristiano and cross-owned Iglesia Pentecostal Víspera del Fin) are in a major fundraising cycle to expand their coverage into Texas. No idea what markets they're targeting but this would be worth tracking.

They recently bought AM 1130 in Mount Angel, Oregon .

I'm willing to bet that the first group of Texas stations this group will be seeking are those that were owned by the late Paulino Bernal.

And this is where I post about the spotty (at best) record of the "Iglesia..." arm of the combo when it comes to station operations. Stations intentionally built with incorrect facilities, licensed yet unbuilt stations, stations left unattended and broadcasting dead air for years...

Anybody who donates to this outfit is a chump.

Val
Was this the outfit that had theat weird thing going on in Darrington a few years back? (Of all places, BTW!)

Based on my listening to the Seattle-based national feed the new signal is KZAM 98.7 in Wichita Falls , Texas (COL Pleasant Falls TX). This is a Class A. The Seattle people are "testing it" under a pseudo-LMA.

They talk about adding three more Texas-based signals: Amarillo, Abilene and one other city I missed.

I know of one of their AM's thats been silent so long if the FCC knew, it'd no longer have a license.

Aren't they same people who own KSAZ 580 Marana, AZ?

No, that's KASA Radio Hogar.

I see how you would think so, as Hogar operates with the same playbook of breaking FCC regulations, running illegal, unlicensed facilities. Going dark longer than a year with no STA's, and eventually losing all but one of their licenses.

I don't know what it is about some of these Spanish language religious operators that they think they are above the law, and only have to be accountable to God.

Wikipedia and the FCC's website both say KSAZ is owned by KASA Radio Hogar, but KSAZ is a simulcast of KDYK "La Estación De La Familia". Maybe they have a LMA (or a pseudo-LMA as logic suggests)?

Are they still putting money into moving 1480 (or was it 1490) to kitsap county to be more competitive in Seattle? As far as I can tell, that move never transpired. I wonder how much they’ve spent on that so far.

Well...those call letters are in interesting coincidence and bring back memories. The KZAM call letters were in the Seattle/Tacoma market way back when... KZAM call letters were on an FM/AM progressive rock combo between 1974 and 1983. The FM was 92.5, which later became AC as KLSY ("Classy") and is now KQMV ("Movin' 92.5").
