KVOA Installs new Transmitter

"Roughly around 7:10 a.m., our transmitter will turn off for a few hours, impacting our over-the-air viewers.

A new transmitter is being installed to improve our signal reception. "

Crappy weather up there in the Catalina Mountains today, as well.

And they wonder why viewership is down. Granted it most likely is less than 20% but I am sure the sales folks would complain with a 20% reduction in audience size.

That and the real problem with HDTV. Antenna orientation.

When in cities where different locations exist for stations, antenna alignment is a big deal.

If it isn't spot on, the data stream will never complete and no picture will be seen.

Viewers lucky enough to live in areas where signal is 'blanketing', a set of rabbit ears may work just fine.

Headline writer for the KVOA site obviously is clueless about how OTA reception works. Probably is unaware their station can be received for free with something called an “antenna”.
Um, not if the transmitter is being replaced.

It was able to be viewed via streaming, apparently, which is why it was specifically addressed to the 20% (or less) that view OTA.

You missed the point of my post. The headline referred to “Over-the-air subscribers” which is not a thing, as the OTA broadcasts are free to everyone capable of receiving them. No subscription needed. Not pay-TV.
