92.5 the Breeze

I read an interview with the programmer for The Breeze in San Francisco who disagrees with this flip. He doesn't change KISQ to Christmas music. He says KOIT has long been the Christmas music station so he figures The Breeze can be an alternative for those who don't want it.

Yet in Sacramento, both The Breeze and KYMX flip every year to Christmas music. Which is correct? Don't let your listeners drift to the other station or they might not come back on Dec. 26th? Or trust they will?

Sacramento is one of quite a few markets where two secular stations flip and have been doing it for years. Cleveland, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, Portland, Salt Lake City. And I'm sure there's more.

It’s only the second year for the Breeze to flip to Christmas. I have a feeling the local manager who I believe came from Fresno had something to do with it to appease local accounts.

I realize top-down programming is worse than it used to be at most every large national company, but that should dispel the myth that iHeart mandates Christmas at all of its AC's. At least in the largest markets, iHeart would still seem to allow a degree of autonomy.
