106.7 KPLS-FM Santa Rosa CA

I stumbled across an oldies station calling itself "KPLS-FM Santa Rosa" at 106.7. On air and on RDS.

Media Bureau and Fccdata.org came up empty. Does anyone here know about this signal?

Yes, I know there was once a KPLS 1150.

Fascinating history.

The calls are now on a couple of stations in the Denver market: KPLS (1510) Littleton and KPLS-FM (97.7) Strasburg. The operator is Radio 74 Internationale, a Seventh-Day Adventist-affliated broadcaster. Those stations have had their own share of troubles: lightning strikes have disabled the AM at least twice; the FM has a CP to upgrade from C3 to C2 that has yet to be built. Its previous CP to do the same thing expired earlier this year, but they've gotten a new CP.

So there is a KPLS-FM, just not in Sonoma County!

There is, or was a pirate down in Leisure World (Seal Beach) running RDS. There's a thread about it somewhere here, unfortunately the 'search' feature is still not working.

I found the most recent thread on it:

And I note that I asked pretty much the same question about RDS in that thread. Proving that sometimes I forget what I post here not long after I post it.

The only thing that actually works around here is Lance, and he doesn't have enough hours in the day to fix everything else that doesn't.
I wonder what other forum software Lance will use?

XenForo seems to have become a de-facto standard of sorts. Every forum I look at uses it except one that still uses Invision (which was the XenForo of 2014).

Before that, it was PhpBB.

You're far from the first to do that (I should know! I do it too!), and you won't be the last.

Having RDS for a pirate seems like you're really putting yourself out there to get caught.

I almost think if maybe the same person(s) are behind both. And the using of M.G. Kelly imaging on that Seal Beach pirate, has some legality questions.

€169 (~US $198 at current exchange rates) isn't too bad for all these features, including RDS (second line item from bottom). It would be absolutely fantastic for a low budget LPFM that can't afford an Optimod or the like.

Given that pirates tend to prefer stealing commercial software over buying it, this KPLS pirate probably either cracked it or is using the open source solution.

I'm only speculating, though.
