Is Classic Rock 101.1 going away?

I'm at work right now what kind of modification has The Planet made?
Still primarily 80s and 90s rock. A little 00s and sprinkled in 70s smasher.

If I’m iHeart, I’m taking 104.9 classic rock, stat.

If this does anything to iHeart’s country stations in the market, it’ll be WESC which doesn’t get the numbers it used to. I can’t see the more female friendly WSSL losing many listeners to this.

I think maybe 3 months to get to their 1st ratings book ... But With this result im even more surprised that the Block or Magic didnt get promoted to 101.1

104.9 Hopefully to Rock again soon (perhaps pair it with 105.1 Asheville). but for now they're still enjoying life on that iron lung, and they might not wanna compete with themselves from Charlotte's 99.7 The Fox (yes that doesn't make sense, thats the point) 😂

From what Lance’s article says, this is the new format. I can’t see it going anywhere. They’re not going to take down 92.5 or 100.5 from iHeart. The imaging is horrible.

Edit: now they’re playing “Folsom Prison Blues” by Johnny Cash. This is just…. Odd.

If you're ever guessing, it's never a stunt. (Yes, I know you'll be wrong once-in-awhile, but you the key phrase is "once-in-awhile.")

I agree. Maybe I'm just not the listener Audacy's targeting, but what little of it I heard sounded pretty bad, if not outright hokey, to me.

Sad part is, listening to Classic Rock 101.1 for the last time, I actually thought it was really good musically. I never listened before because I just don't have a strong enough stomach for very much John Boy & Billy. I know they're popular in the South, but I've never liked them. I had my fill of them in the 90's when Bonneville added them to mornings on 92.5 KZPS. Today was my first time listening to them in almost 30 years, and I still wasn't impressed. I would have, however, had them over Bob & Tom six days-a-week and twice on Sunday.

If 104.9 ever flips I think It'll probably be at some random time unannounced and maybe no one would notice until hours or days later after scanning the dial

Well At least they Claim to have Some B.S.
(Not Balls of Steel .. and not 00 Buck Shot, either 😂)

Just Less ... Not None

Remember those "Double Aught"
Lawyer Commercials 😅

Honestly, I wondered almost 2 decades ago when WESC and WSSL were riding VERY high if Audacy (then Entercom) would ever consider attempt country. I sort of gave up on the idea, and we’ve seen increased softness in the numbers with WSSL and especially WESC recently. I wonder what drove this decision? I wonder how long they’ve had it planned, waiting for the end of JB&B?

Audacy does country well, but so far the presentation on this is painfully hokey. iHeart does country well. At this point, what has me most curious is if iHeart will react, and how they even can. They have two heritage stations that have their own niches carved out. As Lance pointed out in his article, this is positioned between the two. My opinion is still that if it has much impact, it’ll be more on 92.5.

Nice to now have 3 different TEF86 Model radios of various sizes, each one monitoring a different station, one of each that has recently changed 😲

It’s worth noting SummitMedia has a canned classic rock format they run in a LOT of markets. A wildcard I know, but they could always flip 99.5 for the umpteenth time or even 98.1 or 98.5.

I like the NJ Country Station Approach a bit bitter .. uh, better. Thunder 106 (WKMK & WTHJ). Supposed to be a "Rock'n Country" Approach, as they used to say. I Guess in that case, the WROQ letters would be fine where they are.

Yea, and with the way things have been lately, they'll probably flip something to country too. 😲😂

I think Star 99.5 will flip eventually unfortuately, but maybe they'll move AC to/Swap it with 98.1/94.1

Nah, they won’t. Sales-wise, it’s sold in a pair with Jamz, seems to still bill well, and is a flanker to prevent B from getting the top spot and prying it from Jamz.
