As a Northern California native, I know you well get called out by people in the Bay Area if you refer to 80, 280 or 101 as the 80, the 280 or the 101. I’ve been in LA for 20 plus years and it took me at least 5 to start putting the articles in front of the freeway numbers.

KNX Los Angeles and KCBS San Francisco to Simulcast Overnight Programming

It allows them to move that talent into a daypart with more audience and revenue.
Which is why the smart move is for the SF anchors to just start saying "Southbound 405" in the L.A. traffic. L.A. folks don't notice the lack of "the" the way Northern Californians notice the presence of it. And I'd bet....just for economy's sake...L.A. traffic anchors already weren't putting "the" in front of every freeway to begin with.
I remember Susanne Whatley as a KFWB anchor. Don’t recall if she jumped to KNX right after KFWB’s flip or went to KPCC directly. It’s nice to hear some KFWB veterans, even if only a few are left, still on KNX.
At this point we are well past the sublime, so let's now take this to its ridiculous conclusion.
There was an 80's new wave band called "The The". So when they are introduced for their concert does the MC say "Hey give it up for the The The", or are just two these enough?
Thus far, the dayparts with more audience and revenue have the same talent they had before the switch.
She went to KPCC directly after KNX. By the time I moved to LA in 2016 she was doing reporting with some fill in anchoring, eventually taking over the ME anchor chair for 5 years or so before retiring last year.
I once got yelled at in J-school for rewriting wire copy to be about "the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano".
If the censure was based on "the" being said twice, English and French, a bit of common sense needs be applied: most people don't know even basic French so what you wrote is appropriate.

Matt Johnson, the only permanent member of the band, reformed The The in late 2017 (after a hiatus of close to 14 years), initially for a tour that followed a one shot single for the U.K.'s Record Store Day. Their performance at the Royal Albert Hall was released on a 2021 album and they released their first studio since the hiatus -- not counting a couple of movie soundtracks which were largely just Johnson billed under the band name -- a little over a year ago.

I can hear both.
KNX actually comes in like a local, and KCBS (because of it's night pattern sending the bulk of its energy to the south) is noticeably weaker.
I caught the first few minutes of the simulcast last night, and it was weird. All the sounders were different (more similar to KNX's than KCBS's) and all the news was LA-related (very little, if any mention of SF other than a passing mention of the weather and a proper KCBS traffic/weather report at :08).
Notably, when 740 was cutting out and I couldn't hear it, I tuned to 1070 and heard the same thing with almost no static.
It's gonna take me some getting used to, but if it's only after 12 AM and before 6 AM, it probably won't have a meaningful impact on anybody else.

Susanne was also at KFI before KFWB. She was on during middays during Dr. Laura's show. Was also the news anchor at KOST as well.
Imagine if Sideshow Bob had hated 80s music instead of Bart Simpson.

I thought I saw on another thread KBRT was no longer using its nighttime authorization. Probably due to KCBS booming into Southern California after dark. Can anyone confirm if KBRT is actually on the air at night?
They in fact are on at night.
But with only 190 watts.
I live between the Pomona and Azusa city labels on this radio-locator.com map, and can only hear KCBS' skywave on my DX-280 after dark, no matter which way I orient it. The same has always been true while in the car, driving around the eastern San Gabriel valley. KCBS remains consistently listenable here overnight with no trace of heterodyne to speak of.

I was out of the country on vacation for a couple of weeks so I don't know when this started, but just took a listen to the early Sunday AM and early Monday AM overnight shifts and they were anchored by KNX'er Art Sanders.
Of note - he opened the newscasts with "Newswatch, I'm Art Sanders its X:03 on the west coast." While they're still using the KCBS clock, seems Audacy leadership came to the same conclusion we did and picked a generic branding for the overnight shifts.
