I always preferred the solo play by play guy for basketball on radio (Joe Tait). I know I know that was a long time ago but like you said Chones takes awhile to get his thoughts out.I try to listen to the Cavs games on WTAM but I find Jim Chones to be a little annoying as he is constantly chiming in while the game is going on. I wish he would wait until there is a break in the action before adding his comments.

Yes, that is the problem. He is preventing Alcorn from calling the action which is in progress. As I said, he should try to wait until there is a break in the action. As long as he isn't cutting Tim Alcorn off, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But if he is droning on and preventing Alcorn from recounting the game, yeah, that's a problem.
Basketball isn't my thing so I've never been to a Cavs game but I've heard from ones that have gone that they might as well have been at a rock concert from how loud and ongoing all the noise is whenever there's a break. I can see the play-by-play guy being in a booth where the noise isn't going to be as loud but on the sideline....unless Chone's hiding under a table, how's he dealing with the sound from over powering his announcing? Yeah, I get he may have a unidirectional mic or something but if it's that loud seems it would bleed over even into that.Yes, that is the problem. God forbid people and the announcers get excited at a basketball game.^ You are correct. The noise level at a Cavs game is unbearable from the moment you step inside the building. It doesn't stop until tip-off. Then, at the first break in the action, the loud music resumes or the PA announcer starts screaming at the top oi his lungs. And don't get me started on ticket prices. I doubt I will ever attend another Cavs game.
Trouble is, it's now extending to high school games and I've had enough of it. Heck, I went to watch a basketball game and they had even brought in a DJ to play music at an ear splitting level during time outs. At that point parents need to get involved and say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I came to watch a ball game, not attend a rock concert." or the coach should tell them to "Knock it off, I can't even give instructions to my players because it's so damn loud!" The administration should step in and say stop but they want to emulate the professional or college teams. Now with this stupid NIL thing they passed, maybe they think if they make it a "party" atmosphere, they can attract more talented player because "That school is a way more fun place to play at."It routinely goes over the top at a lot of events anymore. The same thing is happening with Ohio State football and basketball. I know I do not need some hype man screaming at every timeout to the point that you can't understand him. It's the same dumb thing as when the scoreboard at a baseball team says "GET LOUD." If you're there and know the game, you should not need a prompt to get excited.
Yep forgot about Mike I always remember him with Jack Corrigan on WUAB. He was good.Mike Hegan replaced Herb Score. And Dave Nelson was also in the booth with Mike and Hammy for a couple years.
Joe Tait mentioned that in his book about the loud noise and one of the reasons he decided to retire. I haven't been to a Cavaliers game since early 2000s but I remember the last one even then it was so incredibly loud 99% of time it was not enjoyable for me. I will watch on TV or listen on radio just my personal preference.^ You are correct. The noise level at a Cavs game is unbearable from the moment you step inside the building.
