Edge Spectrum translator moves

I’ve noticed over the past couple of weeks there have been a large number of Major Modification applications filed for TV translator moves over significant distances. These are all filed by Edge Spectrum, which owns a large number of licenses.

I can’t find much about the company, but it appears they are involved with efforts to convert TV translators into some sort of datacasting service, once any ATSC 3.0 transition is complete.

Does anyone know more about Edge Spectrum’s business model and future plans?

I've never noticed that Edge Spectrum has a business model. They bought(?) a channel 68 low power 3ABN station at the first repack, moved it to RF channel 8, put it back on the air (from a tower owned by the station I was working at; same one channel 68 was on) and literally walked away from it. Left all the old channel 68 gear behind (antenna/ ITC transmitter) that we eventually had to dismantle and toss. Equipment was haphazardly installed with no way to monitor it. 3 of the 4 power modules in the Elettronika transmitter failed with the last one dying a slow death. ERP was supposed to be 250 watts, transmitter at the end was putting out 10. One of the channels had no audio. Entire transmitter was choked with dust at the fan intakes. Repeated requests to have somebody come out and look at it were answered with "we'll send somebody out" but nobody ever showed. Along about 2021 or 2022 they stopped paying rent and another engineer pulled the plug (literally, a twist lock) putting it out of its misery. Station has since been deleted.
They worked out something with Daystar to swap LP stations with them in another market to get another station in our market. That station is currently on the air with no ID, bars on some subchannels and black on others. They have filed to move it from V to U.
Edge Spectrum feels like a money laundering/tax write-off situation for somebody, not a serious broadcaster.

Most money laundering operations usually pay their bills (they got too much money) and are operated to appear legit. My security clearance was delayed 5 weeks when I went in the Air Force because I unknowing was working for one. I didn't know about the "juice" but they paid a dollar above minimum wage and never hinted about anything nefarious. I was lucky. I got extra pay without any consequences. I didn't even get to use the famous line from Sgt Shultz on Hogan's Heros: "I see nothing".

Three five hour intergations and two polygraph tests later I was cleared for my tech school at Biloxi MS. Of course they were still recovering from Hurricane Camille so trips to New Orleans happen almost every weekend.

I’ve noticed in the past few days an avalanche of FCC approvals for the Edge Spectrum LPTV moves, mostly towards larger markets. Still no clear idea of what they will do with them. Seems there are a few others playing the same game. Spectrum bait? 5G TV? Datacasting?

From what I've heard they have a lot of issues with tower sites (read that as they have trouble paying their bills) so they might not be the best tenant to have if you own one.
