Former CNN host Don Lemon arrested in connection with Minnesota protest

Hope this is straightened out given where we are now with the coverage around the nation on ICE. Also it’s stuff surrounding Don Lemons show in Minneapolis that is being investigated here.

Former CNN journalist Don Lemon was arrested early Friday morning in connection with an incident in which anti-ICE protesters disrupted a service at a Minnesota church, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The incident unfolded on Jan. 18, when protesters entered Cities Church in St. Paul. The protesters said one of the pastors is the acting field director of the St. Paul ICE field office.
Bondi said on social media that Lemon and three others were arrested early Friday "at my direction" "in connection with the coordinated attack on Cities Church."

At least three additional people were previously arrested in connection with the protest.

I saw a video of Don reporting from a church. So what's this he did that was a federal case again? I didn't see it.

I get the feeling this was meant to send a message to the journalists.

I think the journalists need to send a message back.

For the past year we focused specifically on Chairman Carr’s response to the Audacy News coverage of ICE specifically KCBS/KFRC-FM reports. It had the same effect and was directed at Audacy’s owned stations licenses like KCBS/KFRC-FM when they reported something similar in the San Francisco Area. Now it’s outright going after a YouTube show Don Lemons has that the DOJ is looking at.

Lemon is the big name but Georgia Fort, Trajern Crews annd Jamael Lundy were also arrested for the crime of reporting.

Totally not another step into fascism. -[/sarcasm]

Now…what might those people also have in common? Probably just a coincidence.

I noticed that too. But it's not surprising. Some of the most hardest reporting and commentary in Minneapolis come from Black/LGBTQ voices.

It's an old trick; Hold a few hostage to silence the rest. (Did I mention it's an old trick?)

This is why everybody needs to double/triple/quadruple etc., down against this. We can't let them win. That is not an option.

Don Lemon is indie himself now isn't he? He seems to be doing a lot of independent brand building in podcasting circles.

This is the best publicity Lemon could have gotten in an attempt to bring Him back to relevance. And in the end likely nothing will come of this in court.

I wouldn't be surprised if they literally don't know that he's not on CNN anymore.

A number of people have forgotten that CNN is still around.

I think the journalists, including Lemon, will ultimately win in court. But, make no mistake, this is a tactic of intimidation to try to keep journalists from covering protests and other activities the Administration doesn't want covered.

With regard to the freedom of religion, it needs to be said that the First Amendment bars the government from interfering with church services but does not bar private citizens from doing the same.

From what I could tell, he was doing more than "reporting." My take was that he wanted to get arrested.
Let's start with the fact that the First Amendment does not apply to private property and the owners or administrators of private property can restrict the access of news reporters or anyone else except authorities with warrants.
In most cities, if you want to be considered a reporter you need to register. Not sure about Minny, but it's certainly the case for NY, LA, and DC.
In any case, he was not reporting. The cellphone videos show him instigating, not reporting. In either case, he did not have the permission of the church to even be there.

Of course, the overlying fact is that all the protesters who trespassed in the church were defending people who invaded the United States illegally.

In fairness, "everyone" with a blog is a "reporter" today. But for attendance at a press conference or admission behind police lines and the like one needs a credential.
