98.9 WEMP Two Rivers

Looks like the "easy listening" format may be ending as Seehafer Broadcasting has applied to change the call sign of WEMP to WOMT-FM effective 2/1/26.
Curious, since 1240 WOMT already has a translator at 107.9.

Since both radio stations are owned by the same company, I'm betting that come January, there will be an AM/FM simulcast of WOMT-AM with that outlet going off the air sometime in 2026 or 2027.

I was listening to their Christmas music last week. I don't know if it was due to being after 10 pm at night, but it was exactly the 'Christmas Beautiful music' tracks that would play on B/EZ stations in the 70's on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day.

It's like a flashback of Christmas memories for me My grandmother always had KRFM/KQYT in the background for her big annual Christmas Eve party.

To update WEMP, they've remained on the Christmas playlist even into tonight, so I'm interested to see if they stop tomorrow (Orthodox/Old Christmas Day) or just keep going until a few days before February 1st.

If it is the final days, I was hoping for the previous pre-Christmas music to record some of the final hours.

Ted is just speculating, as we all are. There has been no announcement as far as any changes. The call sign change takes place on 2/1. We'll know more then.
I wouldn't expect 1240 to shutdown anytime soon, it's the strongest signal in the area. Plus now they would have to promote a transition to 98.9 and figure out if they keep simulcasting on 107.9 or try something else.

WOMT will be making a big announcement at 8:30 am CT about it's future. I also didn't realize that WOMT is in the midst of a 100 year celebration. I'm also hearing a lot of on air promoting of WOMT on WEMP this morning.

I'm getting the impression that 98.9 will be the new home for WOMT.

No surprise, but it's official....

WOMT will be simulcast on 98.9 and 1240 beginning 2/1. The reason given is to increase the FM reach of WOMT. Sad... as WEMP will be retired. 😢
