Playlist Opinion

I'm still toiling away at figuring out programming for my Part 15 station, and I wanted an opinion about a playlist I was just listening to (mods and admins: if this isn't the place to post this, feel free to move the thread to wherever you deem appropriate).

I tried for a sort of smooth AC-type sound.

If it were for a commercial station, it probably has too many unfamiliar album cuts. But on a purely aesthetic basis, it would feel like a modern version of the old KNX-FM "mellow rock" format.

I guess it shows🤭.... I've been listening to that KNX-FM tribute (The Mellow Sound), and I've heard all sorts of songs I like. I like it so much, in fact, that my playlist has ended up sort of emulating it.

As you point out, though, many of the selections seem to be somewhat less familiar (a handful of them I couldn't even find anywhere), so the mass-appeal factor would probably be too low for a commercial station to justify, at least on that basis alone. Despite it, though, I think this might be decent for a non-commercial format, because I'm sure there are people who like this sort of music who aren't necessarily outliers, but they aren't the majority either. Do you agree?

What's important is that you like what you're listening to. With Part 15, you don't exactly have to be concerned with appealing to an audience of listeners. Unless you got the power amped up illegally, and covering all of Lakeport!

BTW, I would listen.. it's a nice mix. Although, I prefer the Johnny Mathis version of '99 Miles From LA'.

Nope! I'd estimate that my audience, by and large, is maybe 3 or 4 people and a horse.

Unless you got the power amped up illegally, and covering all of Lakeport!

It's funny, I can actually cover a good chunk of Lakeport on legal power! (although there's a sizable hole just north of downtown due to there being a power substation there). With a good radio, I can actually just barely hear it, buried in static, from almost 10 miles away, although that's the extreme outermost fringes of the signal; the listenable range is a legal 1 mile or so.

BTW, I would listen.. it's a nice mix.
