Birmingham Iheart Media and 92.7

The broadcast license transfer for 92.7 W224CK from "Avondale Metal Works" to Iheart Media was approved yesterday, 2/2. Once the sale is consummated, will Iheart keep the BIN programming on 92.7 or use it for other purposes? Maybe Iheart moves "103.1 The Beat" to 92.7 and frees up W276BQ 103.1 to go with a new direction/format? "The ratings for the "Beat" have been down since the move from 104.1 to 103.1 a year ago although still drawing respectable numbers for an FM translator.

the 92.7 signals are that low like it only picks up on south Birmingham so I don't think the change will happen on that frequency, but in my area the thunder country on 92.7 picks up

Yes, the 92.7 signal is directional and doesn't cover all of Jefferson co. That could be problematic with "The Beat" possibly moving there, so maybe BIN stays where it is. Anything airing on 92.7 would most likely be urban-formatted. I could see though if the ratings do continue to drop on 103 1 that Iheart might move "The Beat" format to 92.7 and use 103.1 for something else.

I had considered since the other local 92.7 licensed to Leeds (now W226CT) was moved to 93.1 that 92.7 might be a good fill-in/simulcast partner for Crawford Media's WYDE-FM. 92.5 is licensed to Cordova but doesn't cover but a portion of Jefferson county. A 92.5/92.7 simulcast would cover more of Birmingham and would complement both 92.5 and their translator W237EK at 95.3 which covers primarily the over the mountain areas. Of course, with Iheart buying 92.7, that is all moot now.

Looking at the coverage areas on fccdata.com for W224CK, it appears that 92.7 has better coverage than I had previously thought. Last time I remember the translator just covered mostly downtown but that may have been prior to the time 92.7 licensed to Leeds was moved to 93.1.
