Champaign/Danville/Decatur A DJ Name From the Past

Can anyone familiar with Country Music radio tell me where the late Chris Lane worked after he left WJJD? I remember hearing him on WACF Paris, IL during the mid-70's while I was attending the U of I. My roommates were from Chicago, so they were very familiar with Mr. Lane and they listened to him regularly during the afternoon in '74-'75. What puzzles me is that the current coverage of the station at 98.5 (WWVR) does not reach Champaign-Urbana, so I am wondering if the tower was moved closer to Terre Haute at some point. Also, does anyone know which programming service Mr. Lane was working for while providing the tracks for the afternoon show? It was too early for satellite, and Drake Chenault basically had only one voice for its Country programming. I'm not sure what other services were available in the mid-70's.

Yes, the tower was moved into Terre Haute fairly recently (last 5 years), and reduced class from B to B1. I believe it now shares a tower with WMGI-FM/Terre Haute. WACF would have reached Urbana with a fair to weak signal until that change.

I did some further reading. Mr. Lane had moved to Los Angeles in the early 70s, and would spend the rest of his career there, eventually retiring from 1070 KNX. In the mid 70s, he was working for Storer Broadcasting's 1020 KGBS in Los Angeles, alongside Bobby Morgan (who I believe is a different person than the famed KHJ jock Robert W. Morgan).

Also based in Los Angeles was a syndicated country format called "Country Love". I can't say for sure if Lane worked for the format, but I did find a note that "When at XPRS, he voiced his show at the Bill Wade studios and it was shipped south of the border [to Tijuana]."
Bill Wade ran "Country Love", so this is plausible, but I can't say what format XPRS was running at the time in the evenings.

It was a format called "Big Country" syndicated by Live Sound. Ad in the lower left of this page from Broadcasting December 12, 1977:

You will note that the aforementioned Bob (not "Bobby") Morgan of KGBS was also one of the tracked air talents. After radio, Bob had a second career as a locomotive engineer for Amtrak ,until health issues forced him into retirement. Last I heard, he was living in Las Vegas.

Thank you to the posters who responded to my questions. It is beneficial to know there are professionals who can take the time to respond to trivial memories of a radio fan.

When people ask politely and I am fairly sure where to look for the answer, I don't mind at all.

So you are most welcome.
