Total Media Changes in Southern Ohio

So Total Media is changing some formats.

WVNU 97.5 is now "stunting" with "Take This Job and Shove it"

WXIC 660/95.9 FM Waverly which had been Fox Sports until Black Friday (and then became Ho Ho Radio with Christmas Music) had been playing AC music as "95.9 The Game" but has recently started airing "talk" programming such as "Fox Across America" the same programming as their "Eagle" talk format that airs on 100.1 WXZQ Waverly.

You mentioned 660 WXIC, I believe it was. Is that the one that used to be the valley's voice of worship? I remember hearing them years ago in Marrietta (sp, may have even been WVVW), then a friend from years ago from down south, had a daily broadcast on there for a while. What's the old WEMN AM, Huntington, Ashland, Ironton doing now that Total bought them? I believe they were Southern Gospel with just a program or two, most of the programming was on the FM, with Southern Gospel there too. That's still going strong, from what I can tell. Until the AM was purchased from Bristol, I didn't know that their call had changed.

660 WXIC Waverly was Ohio's Gospel Giant until Total Media took over - they flipped it first to Sports Talk as "The Game" and now are simulcasting their talk programming also heard on 100.1 as 'The Eagle' I was disappointed when they flipped away from Southern Gospel as it's a format I enjoy and is heard in very few places but I get the economics of it and likely sports or talk is an easier ad sale for them.

Good question - I did not know they had snagged Bristol's 1200 AM WNRJ. Not sure what they are doing with it at the moment as I am not within signal range. Last time I was down along the river 1200/95.3 was running Southern Gospel. Looking at FCC records it appears the 'sale' has not closed yet so I assume it's still running Bristol's programming.

97.5 WVNU Greenfield/Washington Court House, OH - has switched to "Pure Rock"
Whoopee, studio moved to Chillicothe and canned programming piped in from Jackson. Between this and WCHO running all canned national stuff from iHeart there's pretty much no local radio left in Fayette or Highland counties.

Huntington will probably end up being another outlet for Tom Rotten (Roten) and whatever bottom tier syndication they run on their right wing talk outlets.

Roger on that and I meant the old WEMM AM, not 'EMN. I saw somewhere, that 'NRJ was bought by Total, maybe the FCC Report or Station Sales, can't remember now. I've enjoyed Southern Gospel since 1989 and worked in the industry for a few years. I'm also a traditionalist in a huge sense of the word and really don't care for much modern (what folk call) music of any sort.

Now that's plumb sad to hear. :(

It will be interesting to see what they do with it once the sale closes but sadly I bet it does not stay Southern Gospel :( I was sad when they changed WXIC which had been Southern Gospel for many many years under previous ownership.

97.5 WVNU still has a studio in Greenfield to do interviews etc. They also do have a presence in Chillicothe. Pure Rock's morning show and afternoon shows originate from the Athens Pure Rock station however VNU will still carry a slate of local sports, local news, local information and be a part of community events.

Yeah it will, you're probably right and I understand.

By interviews, etc, are you referring to public affairs and such? For the community's sake, I hope they do maintain a local presence.

Please allow me to further clarify what I just said. I may not be personally for a station's format, but I am totally for a station doing what's it's supposed to do, serve their community.

With the flip of AM 660 WXIC/95.9 Waverly to "The Eagle" talk format it's sister station !00.1 WXZQ Piketon/Waverly/Chillicothe which had been "Talk" 100.1 The Eagle has started "stunting" with Achy Breaky Heart on repeat.
