Classic WBT Briarhoppers Spot

is it me or is soundcloud just hard to navigate? if i click that link i can only proceed if i sign in. then if i sign in i can ONLY get to your link. i have to manually go to soundcloud.com to do ANYTHING else. I'm still logged in, but now I can't find your page again until i click the link again and the whole circle starts over. the only "fix" is to follow your page, and then manually go to soundcloud.com again.
WHY are there no links on your page except for your content? No upper soundcloud bar?
Yep I have issues with SoundCloud too. I must either have more than one account or some stuff I posted is gone. I have the free account so I'm not complaining.

Hi-Fi '50's Saturday night on 1110 WBT. Shameless self promotion. I was allowed to pick all my own music as long as it wasn't Rock & Roll. I did all on the fly, varying the tempo and artists with a limited record and tape library. This is uncut, I'm surprised it hasn't been flagged for copyright.. SoundCloud

It looks like their calls were WIST-FM then, so maybe that cut isn't a legal ID.

I don't think there's a WIST on the AM dial, and the WEGO connection is probably through GHB broadcast, George Buck
Here's what Wikipedia says, and I have sources for at least some of this.

GHB bought WFAZ (High Point NC, Greensboro market), which became WIST-FM at the beginning of 1997 and changed it from CCM to Stardust adult standards.

At the time, GHB owned WIST (AM) in Statesville, north of Charlotte, which was Music of Your Life adult standards. Then it changed to talk and gave up those letters. But when the talk format failed, the WIST letters came back and the station was Real Country. The call letters changed to WAME in 2000. I know this only from personal experience, not a reliable source, but it was back to standards as of September 11, 2001. That was where I first heard about the towers being hit, from a Stardust DJ.

GHB bought WEGO in 2003.

I'll check it out, that is, unless Soundcloud does flag it LOL, thanks. The way you described your allowed approach, kinda reminds me of my entire radio career LOL. My oldest son has been bringing me tapes he found in the basement, over the past couple days, mostly from my radio days, including an unexpected air-check, meaning one I had to put together from tapes made for my wife's family, back when we were courting, so not the best material to choose from LOL. Man, I didn't realize how fast I talked on most of those voice breaks. :D) Some of these tapes were compilations made by myself and a couple from a radio mentor, to help fill in the stations library gaps, mixed in with what we had or what else I brought in LOL. Wow, what memories. P.S., thanks for the follow, although I don't know what you and the church following me will hear, since I am still currently unable to figure out how to upload anything. Maybe later, too much going on right now to devote a huge amount of time to it. Since you've successfully upload several cuts (or tracks as they call them), ya got a crash course up your sleeve?

Tuned in to it now via Soundcloud. Sounds great!

The WIST calls wound up on 690 (WTIX) in New Orleans after Katrina.
George Buck loved to swap calls around, not unlike other broadcasters. WTIX calls were on 1410 in Concord NC, 980 in Winston-Salem NC, and 690 in New Orleans and now 94.3 WTIX-FM in greater New Orleans.
WIST has been on more than that. 930 Charlotte, 1240 Charlotte, 95.1 FM Charlotte (wist-fm), 1480 Charlotte, 106.1 Waxaw suburban Charlotte (wist-fm), 790 Thomasville NC, 550 Statesville NC, 690 New Orleans and now 98.3 (wist-fm) Thomasville NC.

Roger on that, thanks for the info. Never knew 'IST was on 550 in Statesville. I first heard them as a Southern Gospel station back in the '80s, I believe they were going by the slogan 55 'DRV. I remember David Hatton (N4WHL was his ham call) working there in the early '90s, had a great radio voice!

As I told Mike, I'll check 'em out and you've got a new follower up there now, thanks for the memories, etc.

Wow, thanks for the rundown, what an alphabet soup to keep up and just one call sign.
