January numbers are here

January numbers: Houston/Galveston

Not a lot to note:

La Ley laying lower.

KRTH hits the fives.

Mega 101 in the low ones. Will talk of a flip to a simulcast of 610 heat up?

Latino Mix languishes in the mid zeroes.

Vida Unida ahead of both Mega and Latino Mix.

Tejano, Gospel and Classical have listeners on HD-only signals. Some people know what an HD radio is and how to use one.šŸ‘šŸ‘

KLOL (a very fitting call sign) just turned in its worst AQH share performance in the entire history of 101.1 FM in Houston!

This has been my opinion for quite a while, but it makes more sense now than ever:

Put Sports Radio 610 on analog FM...pronto!

It seems KLOL.and KLTN both could use a change. Hard to believe a full market senior road signal (KLOL) could perform so bad. KLTN has the signal issues of their aux site, but still has a solid signal throughout the bulk of Houston.

Sacramento and Houston are now the only Audacy markets with sports talk stations not on FM.

Houston has an obvious candidate to remedy that problem.

Iheart needs to take over KLOL and make Mega great again šŸ˜‚. No but for real when Clear channel/Iheart had it MEGA was one of the top Spanish language stations in Houston.

Well at least KOVE is doing ok. The other three of TU are terrible.
TU needs to move on something but i dont hear anything , not a peep about its current programming.
also mediaco ktjm kqqk is just holding steady, thats good.
Klol has got to flip.

Klol has got to flip.
It’s odd that KLOL and KAMA, two similar formats, are both performing so poorly. Have musical tastes shifted away that much in the past few years? KLOL is a full market signal, and the KAMA aux site currently in use replicates the coverage of the destroyed Ennis tower. What has happened from a musical standpoint? And where did the audience for those two go?
Talk about wasting 93.3
I've mentioned it before, for TU, radio is no longer a priority.
93.3 is my candidate for the future Radio Nueva Vida outlet for Houston and B/PA. Flip KLTW 105.3 back to K-Love. No way K-Love Inc. continues to ignore one of the largest Spanish speaking markets, regardless of what Vida Unida is doing.

I would say since klol and kama are similiar formats, it simply the format, not enough listeners to support it, like many other formats like tejano

TU would never sell 93.3, maybe Amor Celestial could move to FM. But its just too soon to drop Estereo Latino. Maybe move Latino Mix to 93.3, it was there before and it was better then, but that was the time when Latino Mix format had listeners.

Everyone has a price. It's no secret that TelevisaUnivision is open to offers for their entire radio unit. At some point it's possible they may just start shedding properties/markets slowly like Emmis did.
maybe Amor Celestial could move to FM.
That format probably won't work either on 93.3. Most Hispanics are Catholics and many of them would consider the format heretical in nature and not tune in. And 91.7 has already cornered the protestant who would listen. And I doubt they'd leave for a much inferior signal.

The problem with Estereo Latino is that it still shares too much playlist with KLTN for it to be considered complimentary. They also waited way too long to launch it. They had the opportunity to undermine SBS and completely missed on it. Instead they launched Estereo Latino when the market was already oversaturated and La Ley was able to build a foundation.

At some point, someone between KROI, KESS, KTJM, KLTN, and KQQK will have to blink. This type of competition can't be sustainable for Univision, SBS, and MediaCo long-term.

TU can sustain its radio division simply because it has TV and its Vix Streaming platforms. Also Other Markets, TU Radio doesnt have the rating issues like Houston.
CEO sent out 2025 results today, said strong performance across the business.

Which ever one throws the towel would benefit the other. If no more Mega those Mega listeners will switch to Latinomix Or viceversa.

Back in the Days we had Estereo Latino on KLTN and Que Buena on KQBU 93.3 and it was doing pretty good until they decided to go after MEGA and did all those changes, PARTY 104.9 I think was a pretty good station. I don’t remember much as I was a kid when all those changes started. But yes now Que Buena and Estereo Latino are very similar. I think they should merge Estereo Latino with Latinomix and play both NorteƱo and all that other stuff on 104.9.

I think if K-Love Inc. was to wave money at TU in order to place RNV on 93.3 TU would likely sell.
Most Hispanics are Catholics and many of them would consider the format heretical in nature and not tune in.
Doing some quick demographic research it appears that around 30% of Hispanics in Texas identify as some sort of Protestant. A large part of that cohort is most likely Evangelical.
And 91.7 has already cornered the protestant who would listen.
For English speakers it didn’t stop the launch of K-Love and Air1 here even though KSBJ had a multidecade head start. Why would it be different in the Spanish speaking world?

Throw in all the translators and you pretty much have a free for all going on in Houston.

Is the drop off on KLOL due to the format being over saturated? Fluctuations in the HDH areas and PPM? Houston adding or the population moving beyond 1st generation? The 1.1 number is the lowest ever for the 101.1 frequency.

Has anyone considered that, in an economy move, the heritage and successful KLOL PD was let go?
