Dryden/Cashmere translators on the move

(copied from two posts I made over at AVS forum):

Major Modification time! December 18th was the day to file for major modifications on the LPTV/translator end of things and major modifications they are. 6 translator stations licensed to either Dryden or Cashmere (between Leavenworth and Wenatchee), all running 10 watts with highly directional signals and all acting as translators carrying various Spokane stations have filed to move into Seattle. They are all owned by "Upper Wenatchee Valley TV Association" and have filed to broadcast from a tower on Rattlesnake Ridge which is about 2 miles southwest of North Bend.

K10LG-D will continue on channel 10 with 3 kw
K12LV-D will move to channel 26 with 15 kw
K09ES-D will move to channel 3 with 3 kw
K11EZ-D will move to channel 4 with 3 kw
K13ER-D will move to channel 7 with 3 kw
K08JP-D will continue on channel 8 with 3 kw

Rattlesnake Ridge is 100 km from Dryden/Cashmere so obviously this is just a stopping point on their way to Tiger Mt or more likely Cougar or even one of the heavily loaded Seattle towers. Columbia Center, maybe?

Will track these and see if they get approved.

(Update posted in early February):

On 1/29/26, K08JP-D filed an amendment to move (at the Rattlesnake Ridge location) from RF8 to RF2. This leaves RF8 open here in the Puget Sound metro area. Was a broadcast engineer doing a site survey recently at a different site for a different translator on RF8? What broadcast facility would want to use RF8 here in the Puget Sound? Let's wait and see...

What exactly would they broadcast? Seattle is already saturated with subchannel networks. Various Asian networks, perhaps? Why not continue to serve their original purpose (bringing KXLY, KHQ, KREM, KSPS into the Wenatchee valley) and increase power on the other hand? They could easily get out all over the place on several kilowatts of power.

I see that Weigel has been approved a move to "Seattle" on Ch 8 from Astoria OR. Looks like it's actually sending almost all signal N from N Tacoma. Was originally known as K15IQ-D
Makes sense. They probably want a better local signal for Univision in Seattle than KVOS. I can see it becoming a translator for KVOS.

And right you are! Weigel is planning on putting the KVOS signal on this RF 8 translator although one of their engineers was nosing around the West Tiger Mt. #2 facility to see what was available with regards to tower space, floor space and KVOS OTA signal levels. There's plenty of tower space, floor space and a very good off-air signal for feeding the translator, but I guess they decided to go a different direction unless the Tacoma location is just a paper hop to get to WTM-2.
Personally, I don't think that they can hit Seattle with any reasonable coverage from the N 35th site; KBTC operates from there with some pretty high-power levels and really don't hit Seattle well.

I wonder if any LDTV would jump at the earlier-proposed (but denied) KVOS-TV site in Snohomish County

K08QY-D (the translator for KVOS) is on the air as of late March from the KBTC tower in Tacoma. Licensed to Seattle, it transmits with 1.9 kW using a highly directional pattern pointed toward the Seattle city center. I can't pick them up at my location near Schmitz Park in West Seattle, so if you can pick them up at your location please let me know approximately where you are and how strong the signal is.

The KBTC tower may be an interim step to a more centralized Seattle location, or it may be their final resting place.

Thanks
