Lance, I don't know why (but I suspect it's something in Xenforo, as usual) but I know I am not the only one who has accidentally posted twice because the original appeared not to have posted.

This is part question, part solution, and by no means an unreasonable request for you to "fix" XenForo, since you are already working toward migrating to a different platform, but I have noticed one thing in common as an indicator of when this is likely to happen:

The animated green bars in the upper right of the screen stay visible for far longer than expected, and then they go away without the screen refreshing to show the post. That was my clue.

I tried something that probably should be intuitive, but I didn't think of it right away, and obviously others didn't either: Instead of hitting the "post" button again, manually refresh the page in the browser. I've yet to have a result other than my post then appearing.

Obviously, the posts are going through but XenForo is not always refreshing the page, instead hanging for a long time before just making the green bars go away and nothing more.

If that helps your troubleshoot, I'm happy to have been of some help. Even if it doesn't (or, for obvious reasons, you don't want to troubleshoot), maybe others will read this and see if my "fix" works for them as well.

Because none of us want to inadvertently double post.

Yeah, I've accidentally double posted, as well. Next time I'm unsure if a post has indeed posted, I'll hit F5 and see. After I post something these days, I've gone back up and back down through the headings to get back to the respective thread, then it's posts, if that makes sense.

If I understand what you are saying correctly, that works because going back up and down forces a refresh. Makes perfect sense to me.

Yeah, reckon it does, thanks. Also, something I forgot, after hitting the post reply button, I have also used the arrow keys, which reckon in turn, causes a refresh, too.

Now that reminds me of a station's actual Disclaimer I heard on a DX Audio Service Travel Log column. I'll see if I can write it as I remember hearing it.
The views and opinions on this station's programming, may or may not reflect those of the staff and management of... but they miiight;

When the comedian Dennis Miller was somebody, his trademark was to start a monologue, then part way through would say "now, I don't want to get off on a rant here" ... which, of course, meant the rant was starting. He would always end with "of course, that's just my opinion ... I could be wrong."

Once, he made a point that was so impossible to counter, and added "but I doubt it."

Other XenForo forums don’t have this issue. I get a lot of cloud flair unresponsive pages though.

I thinks it’s more a server side issue.

First off, thank you tremendously for bringing up this topic. I believe you are correct that the green screen is a result of using "dark mode". I keep the cell I use on dark for everything, as it's just easier on these tired old eyes.

Second, If I may add something to your excellent workaround for the accidental two-fer, for those of you out there accessing the site as a mobile user, a simple swipe down with your thumb refreshes the page, and keeps whatever you have penned inside of the message box there after the refreshed page loads..Once loaded, simply hit the "post reply" button and wala! It is added to the discussion one single time every time. That was my quick fix, if you will, after having a double posting or two of my very own.

I'm closing this thread with this reply as it will answer everything and otherwise there will be circular replies with people missing my answers...

The duplicate posts are caused by the immense size of the site database. Same with the search issues. There's nothing I can do about either without removing years of posts... And that's not happening.

And yes, that is the fix as far as I've noticed as well.

Not every forum has nearly two decades of archives with hundreds of thousands of posts.

IF there's a duplicate post you only need to do one thing. Report it and we'll delete it. Or tag me in the thread.
