1110 New Format

Happens to me more often than it should, because I don't take the time to read the entire post. Bad habit of mine.

As one of my daughters used to say, when she was like four years old, I un'stand. I do that too, sometimes, especially when I'm behind on posts and one gets rather long-winded. :D)

when I'm in Eastern Time and we loose two hours! :D)
Josh ok i know this is off topic, but i can't resist.
when I lived in Atlanta, I could drive to Birmingham in an hour, but it took three hours to get home.
if i left home at 8am, i'd be in Birmingham by 9. but if i left Birmingham at 3pm, it was 6pm before i could make it back to Atlanta.
and that's not even because of daylight saving time. :D

I've never heard (and can find no documentation) that either NC or VA enacted Daylight Saving Time when the other state did not. It may be true, I just can't find any proof. But the joke as i heard it years ago had nothing to do with Daylight Saving Time, but instead about time zones. The flight was between Atlanta and Nashville, the flyer was Billy Carter. Billy decides that as the President's brother, he should be able to go see the Grand Ole Opery. Flight departure 12:00 noon. Arrival in Nashville 11:55am. Would you like a ticket? Um, no but if y'all don't mind I wanna come down to the airport to watch that SOB take off!

I heard the joke I gave earlier and commentary therewith, during an edition of The Blue Ridge Spotlight, with the now-late Ralph Epperson (a great radio man in his own right), on WPAQ, Mount Airy, NC (there's another derailment K.M.). He said years ago (maybe back in the late '50s, I can't quite remember), one state sprung forward and the other didn't, so that created issues with ads, businesses, etc, then he told the joke.

On a related note, before 1947 western North Carolina (west of Asheville) and all of Tennessee were on the Central Time Zone. Also prior to 1941, western Georgia (including Atlanta and Columbus) were on Central Time, but the Georgia State Legislature moved the entire state to Eastern Time, as the state was split between Eastern and Central time zones. I would imagine this prompted North Carolina and counties bordering NC over in Tennessee to do the same.

Thanks for the info. HMMM, are you the one who used to be on 'KEW and 'NAA?

My friend, I suggest use of the :D, or equivalent emoji of your choice to beat me over the head with to prevent my not realizing a joke is such.

Maybe this blind guy's missin' somethin' (yeah, depends on who you ask), but how do you beat someone over the head with a graphic? :D) I don't know how to do that many graphics with a keyboard, just seen a few spelled out (literally, like : + D + )) over the years.

I have heard that before. Generally speaking, time zone boundaries tend to shift to the west, when a shift is made, putting the affected area on "fast time".

Are you from around here? LOL!

WBT: The Loop, powered by Starbucks. Because after an hour of hearing this lounge music loop, you'll need another Cafe Latte, double-shot.

Also, this thread should be called "1110 New Format, followed by random radio ragchewing". It's almost like being on 80-meter ham radio, except we aren't chatting about Hallicrafters radios, Kenwood amps, and the latest yagis.

Roger on that, good analogy.

I’m a bit surprised this thread hasn’t been closed. It’s really strayed. But I guess the perception is we’re just here, waiting, bee-essing, twiddling our thumbs 😁

It WILL return to topic - but hopefully before my wife has to have me embalmed 😳

Roger on that, Eric. :D

LOL! Back when our oldest was a baby, (probably the trip where I recorded that 'FGN ID I sent you), we went from GA to NC to visit some of my family, stopping on the way out in Salisbury, to visit with my great aunt, last time we saw her BTW. It was a Friday afternoon and we hit Atlanta on 85 at 4:30, not getting out of there proper, 'til 6. Yeah, buddy.

I do remember this happening, I was young living in Martinsville, VA and a house was being built down the street and the workers from Eden NC showed up at a different time. Can't remember which state went to Daylight Savings Time but I do remember it happening.

To have a time zone difference between Virginia and North Carolina, in either direction, would not be majorly disruptive. The state line passes through lightly populated areas, and Danville would be the largest city that might be affected in any way.

I always say, that if standard time presents such problems, one solution might be to advance the clocks a half-hour and leave them there year-round. And I might be looking at it through the goggles of a retiree with few time demands, but one solution might be to change the time at which businesses and other institutions function at various times of the year, so as to optimize daylight hours of operation. And there are just times of the year that have less daylight than others, no matter how you adjust the clock.

LOL! That's funny, but it isn't. We had a church in Danville, that'd send us announcements and would have two phone numbers listed as contact info for the pastor, one in Stoneville, NC and one in Ridgeway, VA. Come to find out, what it was, he lived in Ridgeway, right on the line and had two phone lines going to his house. Keep in mind, this is when most of us still had landlines. He could go to one side of his house for calls to/from NC and the other for VA. I ended up joining that church. He was a good man with a good ministry, who has passed on now.

I asked an evangelist friend of mine, after church tonight, when do we spring forward? He replied, it's next week! He continued, it's always when I'm in Eastern Time and we loose two hours! :D)
Years ago I read that Jay Leno would book a show on the East Coast for fall back weekend. He'd fly back home to the west coast, crossing all the time zones and have a couple of hours to work on his cars

I still have a bunch of Ken Navarro, Richard Elliot, Najee, and Peter White CDs if they want to add anything NEW to the loop-de-loop...
It's sad to think that when a format finally takes shape on 1110, all this radio wit and wisdom will become obsolete .. maybe someone can sabotage the tower and live here forever ♾️
