WMEX

Just about everything the new management posts on WMEX's Facebook page is drawing "Where's Larry?" and "Not listening until Larry returns" comments from angry listeners. Now I understand why management is ignoring those comments. I'm surprised that the people making them haven't been blocked and their comments deleted.

WMEX is a joke...do they really think they can make a go with this format,a station with barely on-air talent, and MeTV Radio? I perfer them mix on WLYN - 60's/70's...at least they admit they can't make money with that format.

The translator is very limited but it was all that was available. Anyone outside of Quincy and adjoining towns will need to listen to the AM or stream. The AM is decent and covers metro Boston pretty well during the day.

Larry kind of was the station. For a while they had Paul Perry on in morning drive with Russ producing and that was a fun show. I assume Larry wasn't getting a paycheck and now that he's not an owner maybe that's a challenge. I always like Russ and Ben but Larry and Paul are seasoned hosts.

I'll admit after Bob Bittner passed, I switched from spending a lot of time with WMEX to WJIB just because I figured it wouldn't be around much longer and wanted experience its waning months. Then John Garabedian took over and brought some new energy that kept me coming back and even sending in a check.

I have a friend who just happened to mention how much he likes WMEX to me recently (we never talk about radio but he mentioned it out of the blue). I think he will not be thrilled with the changes.

Maybe WMEX should hyper focus on Quincy, Weymouth, Hingham, Hull and maybe Braintree - do some news reports in the morning and high school sports in the evening with music filling in the gaps and then try to pick up local clients. Those aren't small towns by any means and have plenty of small businesses.

last time i said something about WMEX in a facebook group of theirs, i had one of the DJS call up screaming at my employer demanding i be fired for what i said on my own computer on my own time (a less than stellar but honest yet not rude of describing the stations). I was 15-20 feet across the office and i could hear the person through my employers phone as they talked to the person. That is one of the maby reasons... i try.. try, but dont always work wel lat it, to keep opinions to myself.

For a station that announced it was turning away from the 1960's - they sure have been playing a few within the last hour (4:50-5:50pm 3/3/26) - Guess they'll play them, but not want to be known for them...and I'm not talking Beatles/Stones/Beach Boys/Monkees/Motown either which you'd expect on a limited 60's mix...

Interesting - it's supposed to be MeTVRadio but they continue to announce WMEX at the breaks - few, if any MeTV Radio affilates do that except for the hour id...I wonder if this is local feed till midnight. It's 8:21pm right now. there's also a noticable lack of ANY advertisers.

Wow - guess they have thin skins.

I thought they got rid of MyTV with the recent changes.

What's odd is that MeTVmusic is mostly 60's and 70's, with some 50's and 80's. They are in reverse of their format change.

Could this be the result of listener backlash against the changes?

Like most network music radio feeds, MeTV has a few breaks per hour where stations can play spots, and if the station has no spots, the station can fill the breaks with a timed song and station identifiers and/or jingles. This is done locally by programming automation to fill the breaks.

I've only very occasionally heard any local advertisers on WMEX during the MeTV broadcast hours, and MeTV itself rarely inserts advertisements into the radio network feed, instead they promote their bread and butter, the MeTV television network that airs classic and vintage TV programs, which is full of ads on television. The radio network serves them to promote their TV network.

No. They simply haven't replaced the MeTV Music feed with anything else yet during the evening through nighttime hours that it has been airing.

I don't know whether they plan to replace it with a different music feed compatible with their new format, or whether they don't care if the music the station airs after it reduces AM power to 100 watts at night is not the same as their new daytime format during mostly full-power broadcast hours.

any syndicated format provided on hard drive, like some of the LRN formats and those on satellite.. if the station elects not to take that break for commercials for any reason, the fill music comes from the network

MeTV FM in Chicago is usually just out of the top 10 in overall ratings for all age groups and they are on a Franken FM 87.7 frequency. The audience obviously skews older but it has low overhead and local commercials. It is profitable. WMEX gets paid to run it I suspect as it promotes MeTV. The music is very well presented with no DJs. But it doesn’t fit the liners and focus of the 70s-90s focused music. The imaging is well done and current sounding. A nit is the TOH ID has the frequency in between the call letters and the city of license.
There may be a contract with MeTV that has to be honored but it definitely sounds like two different stations. The jock’s probably don’t make much over minimum wage but you get what you pay for. Jeff Lawrence produces and hosts a great countdown show with all original WMEX but unless the new owner wants to keep specialty shows it may be history.

you think WMEX is being paid to air the format? I doit think so. more like WMEX isnt paying for the program service.

btw, @Motown your reply to me was blank

Which is totally allowable. Quoting FCC regulations at 73.1201:

> Official station identification shall consist of the station's call letters immediately followed by the
> community or communities specified in its license as the station's location; Provided, That the
> name of the licensee, the station's frequency, the station's channel number, as stated on
> the station's license, and/or the station's network affiliation may be inserted between the
> call letters and station location.

I have my doubts about MeTVmusic being successful outside of Chicago. Affiliate growth is non existent. Their highest profile affiliate was the former KMEE in Palm Springs. They dropped MeTVmusic due to a lack of advertiser interest because of the older demos. And this is Palm Springs!

One interesting thing about MeTV FM which i stream sometimes using Audacy is although I live in Philadelphia I hear all the commercials for local Chicago merchants.
