Cumulus cancels KIKR and KBED in B/PA

While on the subject of silent stations in B/PA, I haven’t heard anything out of KDEI 1250 recently here in NW Harris County. Completely off the air or on greatly reduced power?

No surprise here, and thanks for the help on guiding me into this here thread @HTX and 🐸.

These two aren't what I would call "legendary" or "heritage" to the Triangle of Gold, in any memorable way. 1450 KAYC signed on in the early 60's, and 1510 in Port Arthur showed up to the festivities around 1970. Maybe '69. The fact that the two of them were in direct simulcast ought to tell you how unnecessary these two were in the grand scheme of things. Sad to hear that B/PA loses two services, but neither were of much service, anyway.

What's up with the leaning towers down there, Stan? I've seen 97.5's, but 1450's ain't straight up and down, either?? Jeez!

Anyone want to bet a redneck buck on how long before a country outlet, west of the mighty Mississippi, snatches up 1450's former calls? Maybe 1510's former calls even find their way back up to Shreveport.

I never saw them trying to sell the stations .. i would have been all over that.
Sounds like we all may just owe Cumulus a nice thank you card, and a lovely bouquet of flowers.

Just kidding you there, RIL2K20. 😉😂

Following up my own post, I heard KDEI back on the air today. Signal seemed better than recently noted, repaired? The station had been missing for a while.

when I moved to Beaumont in 1978, KAYC (1450) was beginning to lose audience as the top 40 format had moved to KAYD-FM (97.5). KAYC had many former luminaries that had been on the air there including Al Caldwell who migrated over to KLVI where he remains to this day. Perhaps the leaning towers is a Cumulus thing, as 97.5 was owned by them prior to Gow.

Following up the follow up to my own posts, no sign of KDEI at various checks over the past ten days.
Following up my follow up to my earlier follow up…KDEI has been off the air for quite some time, and we now have a reason: the transmitter died, as stated in their Silent STA filing today.

“KDEI (AM) is temporarily silent due to a transmitter failure. A replacement has been ordered but it will be 90 days before delivery. Out of an abundance of caution the Licensee respectfully requests 180 days in which to remain silent.”

Haven't read all the posts in this here thread yet, but, maybe they're doing the Let's-Keep-The-License thing, seems like more of a common occurrence these days than as I remember.
