Tik Tick Tick...

iHeart has made an HD subchannel adjustment in New York. 710 WOR's simulcast has moved to 103.5 WKTU-HD2, while 104.3 WAXQ-HD2 is now stunting with a ticking clock and brief teasers in preparation of the official launch of "iHeart TikTok Radio" this weekend.

Before anyone asks why, I have been told that iHeart conducted research that found there was listener confusion when there are similarly formatted stations on a primary signal and their HD subchannels. That is why Pride Radio was removed from WKTU-HD2 at the end of 2025 and Tik Tok is mostly going to air on the subchannels of Country, Rock, and Hip Hop stations across the country.

Surprised Houston isn’t on the list of major market stations that will carry TikTok Radio. iHeart’s KQBT HD-2 is still airing Pride Radio at a check a few minutes ago. Of course that could change tomorrow.

In Chicago, we've had this on the air since February on 107.5 WGCI-HD2. I discovered this on February 3.

And this will get younger people to listen to radio... how?

I'm not sure that's their intent. This is primarily a channel on the iHeartRadio app that is also picked up by HDs of local stations, plus a podcast:

TikTok Radio from iHeart will be available on the iHeartRadio app and across 28 broadcast stations

People will listen wherever they want to listen. On whatever device they choose.

It doesn't matter if anyone listens to the OTA subchannels. What matters is, by having it airing in one or more markets, their royalties are at the lower OTA radio rates, not the streaming rates.

That's true, but only applies to the publishing rates collected by ASCAP, BMI, GMR, & SESAC. The label & artist royalties collected by SoundExchange are at full rate.

I figured that TikTok Radio would end up on WAXQ HD2 if it wasn't going to be on either the Z100 or KTU HD subchannels. However, I would think iHeart would want to maximize TikTok Radio's potential by putting it with similarly formatted stations. Who cares about listener confusion? TikTok Radio complements Z100 and KTU better than it does with Q104.3.

We still have Pride Radio here in Orlando. We did lose the localized version of Pride that we had for a number of years (along with a few other cities) several months ago, though.
